P3/2

Primary 3/2 with Mrs Soutter

Summary of Learning

In Literacy, the children are continuing with Daily Supported Reading in ability groups each morning. During these sessions the children will work on blending phonemes to decode new words and common word recognition. They will also have the chance to develop their fluency and expression while reading. Back in class we will continue to extend the phonemes the children recognise and can use. We will also be asking and answering questions about the texts we read and watch. Within writing, we will be writing recounts to retell events. The children will be working on constructing sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will be trying to ensure the size and shape of their letters is consistent.

In Numeracy we are focusing on place value – making sure we are know what each digit in 2- and 3-digit numbers stand for as well as being able to order numbers from smallest to largest. We will also be looking at money and using coins to pay for different amounts.

Our topic this term is emotional wellbeing. We will be exploring different emotions through books, talking about how our emotions can look and how we can best express and deal with our emotions in a healthy way.

We have started our ‘Baby Strings’ music lessons. Every Monday, we will learn to play a stringed instrument – either a violin, a viola or a cello with visiting music teachers.

PE Days

Our P.E days this term will be Monday and Tuesday. Please come to school dressed for P.E and wearing no jewellery. Monday’s P.E is outdoors, so please bring a jacket and have a spare pair of clothes in bags.

Please ensure children have sensible shoes on everyday. No crocs or other shoes that are not securely attached to their foot.
