Primary 3/2 with Mrs Soutter
Summary of Learning
Term 3
P3/2 have had a great start to the new school year, and we can’t wait to continue to learn and have fun together!
In Literacy, the children are continuing with Daily Supported Reading in ability groups each morning. During these sessions the children will work on blending phonemes to decode new words and common word recognition. They will also have the chance to develop their fluency and expression while reading. Back in class we will continue to extend the phonemes the children recognise and can use. Some children are looking at the comprehension skills too and being able to answer different types of questions.
This term our focus in writing is to write character and setting descriptions so we will be looking at using adjectives and including extra details in our sentences. The children will continue to construct sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will be trying to ensure the size and shape of their letters is consistent.
In Numeracy we have begun by looking at number patterns – counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will continue to secure addition and subtraction strategies until the February long weekend.
We will cover ‘time’, starting with days, weeks and months as well as reading calendars before moving onto reading and setting analogue and digital clocks. We are also going to touch on some measurement concepts this term.
Our topic this term is British Wildlife. We have started by getting involved in the RSPB Big Bird Watch, We are hoping to do lots of eco friendly activities during our outdoor learning slots. We are also reading ‘James and the Giant Peach’ as our class novel and we will explore the insects mentioned in this book.
We are continuing with our ‘Baby Strings’ music lessons and are increasing our confidence holding the instruments and using the bow on the strings. We are also reading some musical notation.
P2s will take part in a Determined to Dance block this term.
