Digital Learning
At Our Lady of the Annunciation Primary School, we want every child to develop the digital skills, confidence and creativity they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Digital technology is embedded across learning and teaching at OLA. We use technology to enhance learning, support inclusion, raise attainment and develop responsible digital citizens, preparing our children for life, learning and work.
🌐 Glasgow’s Connected Learning Programme
Our approach to digital learning supports Glasgow City Council’s Connected Learning and Digital Learning Strategy.
Glasgow’s Connected Learning programme has seen almost 80,000 pupil and teacher iPads deployed across the city. Developed in partnership with CGI, it was the largest Apple education project of its kind in Europe.
The programme has provided pupils and teachers with access to high-quality digital technology alongside improvements to school networks, internet speeds and Wi-Fi. Its aim is to use technology to improve learning and teaching and help close the attainment gap.
📱 iPads at OLA
iPads are an important part of learning and teaching at OLA.
Our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils have 1:1 iPads, while younger pupils have access to shared iPads within school. Class teachers also have their own devices to support learning, teaching, planning and assessment. All school devices are managed, monitored and filtered through Glasgow City Council systems.
We use iPads as tools for learning. Children may use digital technology to research, create, communicate, collaborate, practise skills and demonstrate their understanding across different areas of the curriculum.
Digital tools can also help us remove barriers to learning. Accessibility features such as dictation, speech-to-text, Read Aloud and Guided Access, alongside different ways of recording learning through photographs, video and voice, help us provide inclusive learning experiences for our children.
💻 Digital Learning at OLA
Digital skills are taught both as part of Technologies and across the wider curriculum.
Children develop skills in digital literacy, research and communication, coding and computational thinking, problem-solving and digital creativity. They also use technology to support learning across areas such as Literacy, Numeracy and interdisciplinary learning.
We use a range of digital platforms and tools across the school, including Showbie as our main digital learning platform and Magma Maths to support numeracy learning.
🏆 Digital Schools Award
We are proud to have achieved the Digital Schools Award, recognising our commitment to developing high-quality digital learning and teaching across our school.
Our approach involves the whole school community, with staff continually developing their digital practice and our pupils having opportunities to contribute to and lead digital learning.
Our Digital Warriors play an important role in this. They support other pupils, promote safe and responsible use of technology, share their digital skills and help us gather pupil voice to inform how digital learning continues to develop at OLA.
🛡️ Safe, Responsible & Inclusive
Being digitally skilled also means knowing how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Through Cyber Resilience and Internet Safety (CRIS), children learn about online safety, digital wellbeing, protecting personal information, respectful online communication and what to do if something concerns them online.
