See Us… tell our creative story

Over the next three months, people from across Scotland, and the world, are encouraged to get creative and submit photographs and stories that sum up what Scottish creativity means to us, today. Part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 celebrations, See Us is a collaboration between Creative Scotland, Blipfoto, Young Scot and The Scotsman.

All entries will be welcome, with the project aiming to include all areas of Scottish creativity – from high arts to everyday creative acts – whether it’s a scene from one of Scotland’s major festivals, a snapshot from a local event, or picture of your own creative life.  The idea is to tell a story of Scottish creativity in pictures.

Entries can be submitted through blipfoto.com/seeus and the site will remain open throughout the summer months.

Selected entries will then be curated for exhibition and publication in the autumn by a panel including leading author Ian Rankin, world renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti and the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Michael Russell.

Festival of Politics: Get the Picture! Event at the Scottish Parliament, Saturday 25 August 2012

Following on from the success of last year’s Young People’s Day event, the Scottish Parliament is inviting young people to take over for the day at this year’s Get the Picture! event. They are looking for a wide range of groups of young people aged 16 to 25 years old from all over Scotland to come and make this event even bigger and better than ever before. They are working in partnership with the Scottish Youth Parliament and Young Scot to create an event to remember.

One of the themes of this year’s Festival of Politics is ‘Positive Change’.  There will be creative ways to display and discuss young people’s issues as well as their ideas and innovative solutions.  For more information and a booking form please email education.services@scottish.parliament.uk.

Young Scot-calling all 11-26 year olds!

Young Scot are currently working with Creative Scotland, the national body for the arts in Scotland, in putting together a national strategy  to help even more young people take part in the arts!

The views, perspectives and experiences of young people are all important in shaping this strategy so Young Scot would like as many young people (11 – 26 year olds) as possible to complete the survey below

http://www.youngscotsayswho.org/consultation/Youth-Arts-Strategy

Those young people who complete the survey will be able to collect Young Scot Reward points and will have the opportunity to be entered into a free prize  draw to win a creative, artistic, or cultural experience of their choice.  A weekend pass for Beladrum? 10 hours free time in a local recording studio? A set of DJ-ing lessons? An art class? A cinema pass for a year?
