We-CTV, the Scottish Youth Parliament’s anti-knife crime project

Download the entry pack here

The deadline for entry to We-CTV, the Scottish Youth Parliament’s anti-knife crime project, has been extended until Monday 5th November 2012 – there’s now just a week to get your entries in!

All the young people you work with have to do in the next week is spend an hour or so putting together a storyboard and completing the entry form – in return you get to help them to engage with the issue of knife crime and enter a national competition, with the chance to win top notch prizes.

If you are intending to participate, it’d be great to hear back from you to help us to work out how many entries we’re likely to have – give us a call (0131 557 0452) or send an email to steven.k@syp.org.uk to let us know.

This is a great opportunity to engage with knife crime in a quick, fun way.  The project is supported by the Scottish Government’s No Knives, Better Lives initiative – find out more information and download everything you’ll need to enter at www.syp.org.uk/wectv.

BeXcellent website

A new website which will bring Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) to life for young people has been launched by Children in Scotland and the Scottish Youth Parliament, in partnership with the Scottish Government.

BeXcellent

is the first CfE resource created specifically for children and young people, and offers an easy-to-understand approach to the new curriculum and the personalised, creative learning it promotes. The site was developed in consultation with groups of children and young people and features a simple guide to the new curriculum as well as activities designed to stimulate independent learning and new ways of thinking.

There is also a competition on the website which is open to anyone living in Scotland who is 18 years or under.

Festival of Politics: Get the Picture! Event at the Scottish Parliament, Saturday 25 August 2012

Following on from the success of last year’s Young People’s Day event, the Scottish Parliament is inviting young people to take over for the day at this year’s Get the Picture! event. They are looking for a wide range of groups of young people aged 16 to 25 years old from all over Scotland to come and make this event even bigger and better than ever before. They are working in partnership with the Scottish Youth Parliament and Young Scot to create an event to remember.

One of the themes of this year’s Festival of Politics is ‘Positive Change’.  There will be creative ways to display and discuss young people’s issues as well as their ideas and innovative solutions.  For more information and a booking form please email education.services@scottish.parliament.uk.
