ReadIT: engaging teens with reading and writing by creating Book Trailers
Join Shirley Brice Heath as she talks from Harvard about young people’s reading habits, preferences and how they choose to interact with texts. Then hear from Graeme Lamb, Bell Baxter High School, and Louise Walker, Maxwelltown High School, as they discuss the uses of book trailers and share some of the skills and understanding they have developed from participating in the ReadIT course this year. ReadIT is a European commission funded project which aims to develop a tested teaching methodology for book trailers.

Scottish Book Trust will be running the first Book Week Scotland, a national celebration of books and reading, from 26th November to 2nd December 2012.
During Book Week Scotland we will be working with a wide range of partner organisations, including libraries, schools, museums and workplaces, to deliver a packed programme of free projects and events, bringing Scots of all ages and from all walks of life together to celebrate the pleasures of books and reading.
As part of the celebrations, we will be publishing a special book of writing celebrating Scotland‘s favourite places. Written by members of the public and well-known authors, thousands of copies of My Favourite Place will be distributed free throughout Scotland during Book Week Scotland. A free downloadable audio book will also be available.
We have appointed five Readers in Residence, each of whom will work with a Scottish library to stimulate interest in reading through a range of innovative projects. Learn what they plan to do here.
We will also be selecting members of the League of Extraordinary Booklovers from all the applications that have come in. Thanks to everyone who applied!

The search is on for Scotland’s Favourite Place
Scottish Book Trust and BBC Scotland have launched an exciting new writing project to encourage people to write about the place in Scotland that they love the most.
My Favourite Place in Scotland is running from 19 March to 31 August 2012, and in that time Scottish Book Trust wants to involve everyone in Scotland in building a written picture of Scotland’s best-loved places.
Submissions should be made to Scottish Book Trust website and can be written in a huge variety of different forms, such as a story, poem, song lyrics, a short play or sketch, a letter or even diary entry.
Each submission will feature on Scottish Book Trust’s website and a selection of the most interesting and inspiring offerings will be broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland and published in a book in late 2012.
