Mugen Taiko

Taiko drumming is a thrilling folk-art, originally from Japan, now spreading throughout the world. Not only is taiko hugely popular with students, it is an effective means by which to engage students with another culture, to enable participation in music-making, and to encourage the development of teamwork.

Our educational concerts enthral & captivate the imagination, through an interactive and engaging performance, using humour and audience participation. Our hands-on workshops are successful at drawing out even the most the difficult & shy students, building confidence & self-esteem.

We are based at the UK’s only Centre for Taiko Drumming: the Mugen Taiko Dojo, with an extensive track record of delivering high-quality performances, workshops, as well as organising and delivering longer-term projects leading to student performances.

Our professional performing group, Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers since 1994 have popularised the art-form in the UK through extensive touring. Mugenkyo last year performed at high-profile festivals such as the London Jazz Festival and BBC Proms in Hyde Park, as well as full-length concerts at theatres across the UK including:

Edinburgh Usher Hall, Gateshead Sage, Birmingham Town Hall, Basingstoke Anvil, and performances as far afield as Europe, Asia & the Middle East.

For local authorities we offer a range of packages, such as week-long workshop residencies, or a tour of schools with our educational concert, or a project leading to a student performance. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your specific requirements, and I will be happy to provide information on availability & costings.
