National Poetry Day 2012

National Poetry Day is Thursday 4 October 2012, and the theme is ‘stars’.

During National Poetry Day, people all over the UK take part in a celebration of great poetry.

Each year there’s a theme – 2011 was ‘games’, 2010 was ‘home’ – and this year we’ll be exploring starry poems, from the night sky to fame’s spotlight.  There’ll be stars on our poem postcards, dazzlingly starry posters to download and print, and shining ideas for teaching and activities.

From early August 2012, you’ll find the poems, teachers’ notes and posters right here.  www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk

Calling all primary 3 & 5 teachers!

Mandy Powell, Institute of Education, University of London is looking for friendly inexperienced (re media education) Primary 3 & 5 teachers interested in using popular media culture in the classroom to pilot drafts of units of work being prepared for publication in the autumn. The units are being developed now and would be used over one to three days in the classroom. The feedback from teachers will influence the shape of the published resources. Anyone volunteering to try them out will ‘earn’ a free set of published materials for the school.

If you are interested in participating in this trial please contact Mandy Powell M.Powell@ioe.ac.uk<mailto:M.Powell@ioe.ac.uk.

Northern Lights is a film about Scotland made by you!

As part of the Year Of Creative Scotland 2012 we are asking members of the public to collaborate with us in the creation of a unique feature-length documentary film.

We want you to take out your cameras and record your own personal videos about Scotland’s past, present and future.

Project submissions are open from 20 March to 21 June 2012 and you can submit as many video contributions as you like.

We will then gather together all this footage and edit it into a unique, first in a lifetime, vision of Scotland in the Year 2012

Two day workshops are being held in Fife…click NLWorkshopRegistration to register.
