Launch of the Creative Scotland Awards 2012
In partnership with the Daily Record, Creative Scotland are looking for nominations to the Creative Scotland Awards – a celebratory spotlight on the cultural success stories of 2012, and a chance to raise awareness of these stories amongst the people of Scotland.
See Us… tell our creative story
Over the next three months, people from across Scotland, and the world, are encouraged to get creative and submit photographs and stories that sum up what Scottish creativity means to us, today. Part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 celebrations, See Us is a collaboration between Creative Scotland, Blipfoto, Young Scot and The Scotsman.
All entries will be welcome, with the project aiming to include all areas of Scottish creativity – from high arts to everyday creative acts – whether it’s a scene from one of Scotland’s major festivals, a snapshot from a local event, or picture of your own creative life. The idea is to tell a story of Scottish creativity in pictures.
Entries can be submitted through blipfoto.com/seeus and the site will remain open throughout the summer months.
Selected entries will then be curated for exhibition and publication in the autumn by a panel including leading author Ian Rankin, world renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti and the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Michael Russell.

Scotland’s Festivals take “One Step Further”
The One Step Further investment programme aims to enhance the programmes of existing festivals and events during 2012, with a focus on cultural tourism.
Sixteen festivals are to receive a share of over £400,000 to help attract more visitors to Scotland during 2012: the Year of Creative Scotland.
Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland said;
“Scotland is unquestionably one of the most creative countries in the world and these festivals will help showcase that vibrant creativity to new audiences. Our culture is one of our greatest assets and a major draw for visitors – that’s why this programme is so important – it’s providing opportunities for visitors as well as local communities right across Scotland.”
One Step Further Investment in Fife:
- While chamber music is at the heart of the acclaimed East Neuk Festival, One Step Further will enable it to extend its activities with several new initiatives including a new performance venue; outdoor performances by young musicians from Live Music Now; Pilgrims, an exhibition and labyrinth evoking St Andrews in the middle ages; and Littoral a programme introducing internationally renowned writers inspired by nature and the environment

Well done St Andrews…Fife is so creative!
The Creative Place Awards celebrate and recognise the hard work and imagination that contributes to the rich cultural life of a community, as well as its social and economic well-being.
The Awards are part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012, a year-long celebration of our nation’s cultural and creative strengths.
St Andrews received £150,000 in the category for places with fewer than 100,000 residents. The runners up were Irvine and Perth. St Andrews will be hosting its own Year of Celebration in 2012 and the award will allow the town to promote its already rich cultural programme to the UK and international visitors and to support a new community musical theatre production as the year’s centre piece production.
