Levenmouth community learning and development work recognised as some of the best in Scotland

A new report by Education Scotland, on the inspection of the learning community in the Buckhaven High School area, highlights it as having one of the best inspection results in Scotland.

Responding to the positive report, Joe Fitzpatrick, Head of Education (Communities) added: “This is a tremendous accolade for Fife. The report underlines the quality of work to support learners and communities in the Levenmouth area, and highlights the commitment from individuals and groups in the area to work with the Council and its partners to produce positive local outcomes. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the inspection process, and helped to inform this independent evaluation which shows the very positive impacts of well organised community learning activity in the area.”

National Poetry Day 2012

National Poetry Day is Thursday 4 October 2012, and the theme is ‘stars’.

During National Poetry Day, people all over the UK take part in a celebration of great poetry.

Each year there’s a theme – 2011 was ‘games’, 2010 was ‘home’ – and this year we’ll be exploring starry poems, from the night sky to fame’s spotlight.  There’ll be stars on our poem postcards, dazzlingly starry posters to download and print, and shining ideas for teaching and activities.

From early August 2012, you’ll find the poems, teachers’ notes and posters right here.  www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk

The Scottish Government

NEW FINDINGS PUBLISHED ON 10 MAY 2012

Aileen Campbell, Minister for Children and Young People said:

“The Scottish Government wants our country to be the best place for children to grow up and studies such as Growing up in Scotland (GUS) provide uniquely Scottish information to help realise that vision.

“The findings help our understanding of what makes the best start in life, how to achieve that for our children and how to measure the progress already made.

“This government is committed to supporting children and families and recognises that getting it right in the early years is essential. These findings will be hugely helpful to us as well as our partners working across the early years in Scotland.’’
