Jolly Phonics – 23rd August 2016

We learned our new sound ‘n’ today in Jolly Phonics.

We had lots of fun using whiteboards and pens to write our sounds with Mrs Watson.

Tips for Phonics at Home:

Help your child identify phonics sounds by having a sound hunt around the house. Write the sounds we have learned so far on post it notes and hide them around the house. When your child finds one ask them what sound it is.

Spring has sprung!

Over the past few weeks at Forest Schools our children have been observing all the changes in the park.

We have drawn pictures, taken photographs and even used tally charts to record how many daffodils are in the park – that was a tough one!

We have discovered our Forest School mouse has had babies in the mouse house. We saw the baby mice following their mummy around our Forest Schools area and got a chance to take a photo of her.

Back in the playroom we have been making clay flowers and making our own Spring time flowers using a variety of materials and techniques.

Coffee Mornings

LB_Summer_Coffee_Morning_Blog_2-582x329This week we hosted a range of Coffee Mornings for parents and carers.

The theme of this week’s coffee mornings was Transitions in a Young Child’s Life.

SAM_5532

In an informal setting with coffee, tea and biscuits we discussed the types of events in a young child’s life that can involve transitions and how to best equip both our children and ourselves for this change.

Many parents commented on how they now had a better grasp of what the word transition can mean, involving moving house, welcoming a new family member or developing new friendship groups.

Thanks to all the parents who made it along to the event. Remember to check our parental engagement and involvement booklet for up and coming events.

Numbers, numbers, numbers

At Calderwood Lodge Nursery Class this term one of our key focuses for both Ante and Pre School children is:

Number and number processes

I have explored numbers, understanding that they represent quantities, and I can use them to count, create sequences and describe order.

We have been exploring numbers in many different contexts, from singing number songs toĀ counting blocks in our construction area.

At our numeracy table we have been using unifix cubes and counting steps to match quantities to a number. DSCF2237[1]Ā DSCF2233[1]

Challah Baking

There was lots going on in the Home Corner in Calderwood Lodge Nursery Class today! Mrs Bodenheim paid us a visit and ran a Challah making session in our home corner kitchen.

We measured out the ingredients for the dough and had lots of fun mixing and kneading it together.

Afterwards Mrs Bodenheim taught us how to do lots of fancy braids and patterns in our dough.

We took the cooked challah home to enjoy with our families (if they are quick enough before it’s all eaten up!)
