Book Week Scotland
This week we celebrate Book Week Scotland!
Every school in Scotland will be taking part in various activities to celebrate literacy and reading.
In our class we have been asked to bring in our favourite book from home to add to our Book Week bag. Each day we will read some of our favourite tales to share our love of reading. Miss Dunn has asked the teachers to bring in their favourite book as well!
In Priamry 1 we have been invited to Giffnock Library where we will be gifted our P1 Family Book Bags. Take a look at the information about this bag below:

Ivrit – Monday 21st November
Mr Guetta returned from his trip to Israel today. He had lots of exciting stories to share with us about his adventure to the schools and sights of Israel.
Mr Guetta let us interview him to find out some facts about Israel and the culture there.
Q :
Yisrael: “When I was in Israel it was very hot. Was it hot when you were there?
A:
Mr Guetta: “The temperature was just right. It was a lovely heat, before I went to visit the schools I went for a run and a swim. It is Winter in Israel just now too, but it does not get as cold as it does in Scotland. ”
Q:
Lucy MacInnes: “What foods did you eat there? Were they different to food here?”
A:
Mr Guetta: “That is a great question. Eating food is a social occasion in Israel so we have a little plate and lots of small dishes to chose from. There was lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and hummus.”
Q:
Alice: ” Is school different there because it is so far away?”
A:
Mr Guetta: “School is still as happy and fun as it is in Scotland. There are some differences. In Israel teachers wear their casual clothes and children do not wear a uniform. The children call the teachers by their first names!”
Handwashing Help – Friday 18th November
As many of you will have heard, our class has been struck with a tummy bug.
To help contain the spread of this bug we watched a video and practised how to efectively wash our hands.
Dovid: “You need to use soap to kill the germs.”
Nina: “The germs are so little we can’t see them, but they are there, and they spread sicky bugs!”
Ian: “Doctors in a hospital wash their hands in the same way, becuase they have to be careful of germs too!”
Forest Schools – Session 1
Writing Sentences
Primary 1 have been learning a song to help us remember how to write a sentence.
Sing along below:
“Capital letters at the start, full stops at the end.
Finger spaces in between and show it to a friend.”
2D shapes
We have been learning all about 2D shapes this week. Our EducationCity homework this week will reflect this.
We used 2D shapes to create images and pictures.
We also discussed the properties of 2D shapes.
“A square has four sides all the same” – Nina
“A hexagon has six sides. We have a hexagon table in our classroom!” – Zac
Jasper asked an interesting question. He asked if there was a shape with 100 sides! We used our researching skills to find the answer. A hectogon is a 100 sided shape, but its sides are so small it looks like a circle.
Days of the Week
Each day we do the calendar in class and say our days of the week. Today Miss Dunn caught us out by asking the day before and after others. We stood on today (Monday) and hopped backwards and forwards to different days.
Try this at home, particularly at times when your child is not expecting you to ask what day it is!
It may also help to hang a calendar in your child’s bedroom and discuss the events that normally happen on that day e.g. Today is Monday and you go to Karate on a Monday.
Jolly Phonics – complex blends
As we mentioned last week, we will be posting a blending clip each week for you to try at home with your child.
This week we have identified those difficult double sounds as our focus for blending. Please try blending the sounds in the clip below with your child, remembering to say “say the sounds until you hear the word.”
Primary 1 Daily Mile
Primary 1 started their Daily Mile walk today!
We will be completing a Daily Mile walk around the playground every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Research has shown that taking part in a daily walk will not only improve our fitness and wellbeing levels but will also make us more alert and ready to learn.
See the launch clip below for further information on this new initiative:
