Warm Welcome to Nicole

Our nursery would like to note a warm welcome to our new temporary Child Development Officer Nicole. Nicole will be covering Gracenna, and taking on the role of Red Group Key Worker. DSCF1227[1]

Nicole has lots of experience working in several other East Renfrewshire nurseries and we look forwards to having her with us until the Winter break.

Don’t forget to give Nicole a warm wave and introduce yourself at drop off and pick up times.

St Andrew’s Day

Oliver brought a very interesting piece of material into nursery on Monday. At welcome time his group discussed this piece of material and learned it was a strip of tartan. Oliver explained tartan is a traditional Scottish fabric and that Monday was a special Scottish day known as St Andrew’s Day.

Oliver shared this knowledge with the rest of the nursery and the boys and girls decided they would like to make their own tartan. Our Child Development Officer Nicole set up the arts and craft table with cars, paint and paper to make our own tartan prints.

Terrific Technology

Miss Dunn held a pupil focus group with the children to find out their views on the nursery and learning environment. Lots of children said they felt there could be more technology on the playroom floor. As a result we have added new games to the computer in the book corner, ordered more Bee Bots and introduced Leap Pad tablets to our daily activities.

The children have all had a great time learning through interactive games, taking pictures and selecting and listening to songs on the Leap Pads.

“I chose to make and look after a pink unicorn. I washed it and made sure it had lots of yummy food”

Remembrance Day

Lots of our boys and girls have been noticing the poppies people have been wearing on their jackets. We did a bit of research using the computers, newspapers and interviewing adults to find out why. We learned that people wear poppies to remember brave men and women who have died fighting in wars. Some of our boys and girls explored printing with junk material to create our own lovely poppy pictures.
