Trip to Wholefoods

On Wednesday 8th October, some pupils from Uplawmoor Primary were chosen to go to Wholefoods supermarket in Giffnock.  Tiana, Emma, Amy, Abigale and Josh went along to learn about the packaging of foods.  We learned about what makes a great label and what information must be on a label.  We have been given the chance to create our own label which will be stuck on our own crab apple jelly.  We are in the middle of designing our artwork which will be sent to Wholefoods and used for our own jelly.  It’s really exciting!

Star Pupils and Achievements

Here are our recent Star Pupils who were awarded with their yellow stars before the October week.

A big well done to Rob, Garbiel, Abigale, Blaine, Toni, Mikey, Jody and Shannon.  Also, Arrah in P4 kindly brought in the rosettes her Jack Russell dogs have won in various dog shows.  Well done Arrah (and a big ‘woof woof’ to your dogs!)

PSA Village Ceilidh

By Ashley Kee (P5)

The PSA organised a Ceilidh for the families and friends of Uplawmoor on Friday 12th September.  There was a band who also sang at the same time. It was on from 7pm until 10pm.  There were alot of people there!

There was an adult ‘lucky fiver’ which is when you write your name on a five pound note.  At the end they picked a name out of the box and that person wins all the money!  There was also a kids tombola which was 20p a shot.

We all had a really great time!

Golf

Primary 5-7 had the opportunity to play some golf this morning  to tie in with the start of The Ryder Cup.  The golf tournament is coming to Gleneagles, Perthshire at the end of September.  The children had 3 attempts to hit the ball into the wheelie-bin for a chance to win free membership to a local golf academy. Sadly nobody hit the target…We had lots of near misses though!

Star Pupils and Achievements

We are proud to bring you our Star Pupils for this week.  Each Friday at assembly, every class teacher chooses her Star Pupil for the week.  This could be for being a responsible citizen, a successful learner, an effective contributor or a confident individual.

We also like to recognise special achievements amongst our talented and skilled pupils.  This week Josh and Lauren (P6) shared their special acheivements.  Josh showed us his numerous rosettes which he won for his prized cattle and sheep and Lauren for her superb swimming talents.

Well done to them both and all of our Star Pupils for this week!

Meet and Greet with Kimberley Renicks

All of the pupils of Uplawmoor Primary were lucky enough to meet our fabulous Commonwealth Gold Medalist, Kimberley Renicks.10

The children asked Kimberley lots of questions and found out how she started her career in judo.  Kimberley also told us about her training regime and how she maintains a healthy diet.  We were suprised to hear that she is allowed a sneaky can of Irn Bru or a pizza as a special treat and she only has a take-away once a month!

Thanks for coming to see us Kimberley!

SOLD! At The Farmer’s Market

The gardening committee were busy this morning preparing the vegetables and plants to be sold at the Farmer’s Market which took place today at the church.  They sold potatoes, runner beans, onions, parsley, cabbage, baby aloe vera plants, Christmas cactus and spider plants.

Dean, Josh, Abigale, McKenzie, Miss Dawson-Bowman and Mrs Waters all went to the church and sold almost everything!  The gardening committee made a grand total of £65 pounds which will be used to buy new gardening equipment, seeds, bulbs and plants for future gardening opporutnities.

Well done to the Gardening Committee!

The Votes are In!

Welcome to our new Pupil Council and Eco Committee!  Our chosen committee members were voted for by their peers and along with their committee teacher, they are starting to think about how we can make our school even better!

We are all keen to support both groups in any way we can and we look forward to working together with you.

Junior Road Safety Officers

Rob and Erin have been selected to represent our school as our JRSO.  They will be working closely with Mrs Martin to ensure we stay safe when walking along the driveway after school.

Please remember to walk within the yellow line as there might be cars driving alongside you.  Rob and Erin will also ensure there are no cars blocking the entrance to the driveway to make sure everybody can walk to and from school safely.

Meet The Teacher

Just a reminder that our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening starts tonight at 7.30pm. You are welcome to come to your child’s classroom and have a look at some resources which your child will be using throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you this evening

Safety in the Park

P7 took a trip to Arthurlie House last Friday to learn all about ‘Safety in the Park’.

Niamh, Shannon, Innes, Tiana and Rob learned about the dangers of alcohol and drugs and took part in various activities which promoted being responsible and safe whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Welcome Back!

So, after a wonderful summer the staff and pupils of Uplawmoor are settling back into school life. We are looking forward to another year filled with hard work, maximum effort and some fun along the way!

Welcome to our new classes!

Netball – P7 Pupils vs Staff

We had loads of fun today during our netball competition – ‘Staff versus P7s’

Mr Reid, Mr Philips, Mr Reilly, Mrs Crawford and the teachers fought a hard battle against the Primary 7 leavers.  A big thanks to the rest of the school for cheering us on (well… I’m not sure how many cheers we heard for the staff?)

All the Primary 7 pupils had to have a lie down afterwards as they had a tougher match than they first expected!  All the staff, however, went for a jog round the park. Ha ha!

Great fun had by all.
