A little note to let you know Primary 4-7 will be entertaining Barrhead shoppers to some festive carol singing on Thursday afternoon (11th) at Tesco. We might see you there!

P4-7 Performance with Pace Theatre Company
We were lucky enough to take part in a workshop with ‘Pace Theatre Company’ this morning. Our play was based on being a good person and taught us how to be individual and confident. The children performed to Primary 1-3 and the staff and parents. Â
A big thank you to Pace for coming to spend time with us!
Thank you for our Tripod!
Primary 6/7 would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents, staff and friends who purchased a Welcome to Uplawmoor DVD from us.Â
We raised £58 and we are delighted to announce we were able to purchase a tripod for the school.  We would like to personally thank Eva’s dad, Matt,  who sourced a fantastic deal for us.Â
We have already used our tripod to record our performance with Pace!

Intergenerational Quiz
Team Uplawmoor have triumphed again! On Friday Niamh, Tiana, Rob and Shannon represented our school in the Intergenerational Quiz held in Paisley. Along with their ‘wiser’ friends they managed to beat off the competition to come overall first place – winning by 2 clear points.
What a fantastic achievement! We are all very proud of you.
Another trophy for the cabinet!
Badminton Champs
A huge well done to Ashley, Dylan, Rob, Josh, Amy, Erin and Niamh who came overall first in the East Renfrewshire badminton heats.
They won their singles and doubles games and came overall first. They are through to the finals which take place on Monday 1st December at Parklands Country Club in Newton Mearns.
P6/7 Visit the City Chambers
Primary 6/7 took a trip to Glasgow’s City Chambers as part of their Mock Court Case topic.  They learned about civil law and gained some insight into the different roles and responsibilities of those who work in law.
To gain further understanding for our own court case, the children also listened to experts talk about taxes, mobile phone contracts and how to design a barrister’s robe.  Megan-Jane was picked to model an actual gown used in court!
“Our case is about a lady called Mrs Telfer and she hasn’t paid her mobile phone bill to the company ‘Talk and Text’. There are different jobs for us like witnesses, lawyers, gown makers and artists.”  Amy Cupples P6
Primary 3/4 study the Human Body!
Primary 3/4 are learning about the human body. We have been singing a song called ’10 Bones’ and we have been doing lots of exercises to make our bones strong and healthy. Here is a picture of ‘bones’ posters.
We are in the middle of  writing a story about Superhumans.  My story is about a man named Lloyd who drank a potion by mistake and all of his bones detached and he became an angel!
P1/2 Christen their Baby!
On Monday 17th November, Primary 1/2 visited Caldwell Church. Mr Donaldson helped us to learn about what happens at a christening. He christened our baby ‘Diamond Christie’ which was the name chosen by P1/2. The parents of baby Diamond are Daniel and Katlyn and the godparents are Mikey and Lucy. Mr Donaldson explained to the children how he uses the water to christian the baby.

Christmas Wreaths by Primary 6/7
The class of Primary 6/7 would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs McQuaker, Mrs Pollok and Mrs Dolling who all gave up their time to come into our class and help the children create some wonderful Christmas wreaths.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed using their creative skills and we look forward to selling them in the run up to Christmas.
Eco Poster Competition
Miss Dawson-Bowman’s Eco Committee set the boys and girls a challenge to design an Eco-friendly poster. Each class had an eco subject to focus on, such as, recycling or saving energy.
The Eco committee judged each entry and decided on the winning posters from each class (see below).
The winers were Ruby, Alexander, Cameron, Megan-Jane and Shannon.
These posters will be professionally printed and displayed on the ‘Eco Wall’ in our gym hall. The standard was so high that Miss Dawson-Bowman announced there will be awards for runners up.
P6/7 – ‘Welcome to Uplawmoor’ DVD Sales
Primary 6/7 would like to say a huge THANK YOU to those who have purchased one of our ‘Welcome to Uplawmoor’ DVDs. As part of our enterprise topic, we decided it would be useful to make a DVD for children who may join our school in the middle of their education. The DVD gives them an opportunity to meet teachers, children and staff and learn a little about life at Uplawmoor Primary. We planned, filmed, edited and burned our movie onto disc. We also used our art and ICT skills to design a front cover and used our literacy skills to write an informative leaflet to accompany the DVD. In maths, we researched the cost of a tripod and decided on a suitable pricing plan which covered our costs of the blank DVDs and made us a fair profit.
So far we have raised £48 which will go towards buying our own tripod for future filming opportunities. If you would like to buy one of our DVDs, please put £2 in an envelope with your child’s name clearly written on the front and we will be delighted to provide you with a DVD and a leaflet.
Please note, the DVDs can only be watched on a laptop or computer.
Thank you once again, from P6/7.
Star Pupils
Here are our Star Pupils for week ending Friday 24th October. We have Josh, Ashley, Angelina and McKenzie who have all been working hard. Also, a big well done to Gabriel who kindly showed us his Cub badges!
P7 Remembrance Assembly
Primary 7 are studying World War 1 and prepared a Remembrance Assembly for the whole school. Niamh, Tiana, Rob, Innes, Erin and Shannon spoke about how we can show our respect for those who have fought in past and present wars and remember those who lost their lives fighting for our country.
P7 will be coming round each class everyday next week so if you would like a poppy, please bring a donation.
P1/2 ‘Special Times’ Party!
All of the pupils were very excited to be invited to a Primary 1/2 party last Thursday afternoon. Each class received an invitation written and designed by Primary 1/2 and we were delighted to be part of their celebrations which linked with their topic ‘Special Times’.
There was lots of delicious food to eat and a variety of party games. The Primary 1/2 children selected their own music and we were entertained with dancing, party games, face painting and Wii dancing.
Thank you so much for the invitation Primary 1/2!
Whole School Weed
The pupils, staff and parents of Uplawmoor Primary School got stuck into the weeding to ensure our grounds stay tidy and green! Despite the rain, we all got our hands dirty (well, almost all of us) and dug up those nasty weeds. The Gardening Committee will no doubt organise another whole school weed soon so watch this space.Â
A big thank you to the parents who came along to help us!
