Rice Challenge: Selling rice Monday 16th May – Friday 20th May

The children at Our Lady of the Missions Primary School will be lending a ‘Helping Hand’ to secondary school children in Malawi over the next few weeks, as they participate in the JTS (Just Trading Scotland) ’90kg Rice Challenge’.  Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and as a result, secondary education, unlike primary, is not free.  JTS works directly with smallholder farmers in Karonga Malawi to develop sustainable markets for long grain ‘Kilombero’ rice and it is the sale of just 90kg of this rice that covers the fees for one child to attend secondary school for a year. CONFIRMATION EASTERTIDE 2016

As you know, the children will soon begin their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will take place in April, during the weeks of Eastertide. Children belonging to St Joseph’s parish or those who made their First Communion there can be confirmed in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley. Children belonging to St Vincent’s and Holy Name parish can be confirmed in their own parish. For those children who were confirmed in Primary 4, I am sure their studies this year will deepen their understanding of the sacrament.  Your child will be very welcome to join one of the masses and receive a blessing.  Also, if your child has not made any of the sacraments, we would be very happy for your family to join us and your child can receive a blessing if you wish. If you have any questions around the reception of the sacrament, please do not hesitate to contact me.Please find attached a date for St Joseph’s parents to attend a Confirmation information evening with Father Jim. (only for children being Confirmed in St Mirin’s Cathedral)
