PTA Quiz night – Friday 16th May

Opportunity Knocks for you all as this month Mearns Castle plays host to our annual PTA Quiz night on Friday 16th May.

As quiz nights go, 8 out of 10 cats love this event, where you and your team get an opportunity to Mastermind a victory against a fiercely competitive field.

If you have ever wanted your Big Break in terms of taking part in an original quiz night, now is your chance.

Every Second Counts as you go head to head trying to Beat the Teacher within the room.

The Vault (or Open Area) will be open from 7:00pm along with a fully licensed bar.

Play Your Cards Right and you may be able to bask in the glory of Going for Gold against the best.

Strike it Lucky and you may also win big in our lucrative raffle taking place the same night. You need those that are able to Name That Tune, and those who can answer things in a Split Second.

Hopefully the Price is Right with a £5.00 entry fee per participant. All of the money raised for this event will go towards funding projects, resources for departments within the school or whole school ventures. So don’t be the Odd One Out, look to purchase a ticket today and hit the Bullseye with a top night out!

Tickets can be purchases from the school office.

S1 Litter Pick

A reminder to all S1 pupils that volunteered for the litter pick (and have returned their consent form) that the litter pick is this Wednesday periods 5 and 6. All pupils involved should meet at the entrance to the school promptly at the start of period 5. You DO NOT need to register for your period 5 class. Pupils must be in full school uniform.

If the weather is rubbish it will be permitted for pupils to wear an outdoor jacket and appropriate boots/wellies, however, these must only be worn during the litter pick and not for the rest of the school day.

Thank you for helping to keep our school grounds and local community beautiful!

“Free Your Feet”

During week beginning 12th  May 2014 “Free your Feet” a week long whole school event which encourages all pupils to make walking part of his/her mode of transport to and from school will take place.

All pupils are encouraged to take part and can do so by:

  • walking the whole way to and from school.
  • walking to and from the bus stop.
  • walking from the drop off point in the car park at Broom shops.

If every pupil participates in some way we hope that together we will:

  • raise awareness of the health benefits of regular exercise as part every day life.
  • reduce traffic congestion and increase pupil safety.
  • make a contribution to improving the environment by reducing pollution.

Big BIG Sing

Big Big Sing is a UK-wide project that aims to inspire thousands of people across the country to celebrate the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games through singing. We’re running an exciting Songwriting Competition for primary and secondary school pupils in Scotland.

We are asking pupils to write a song inspired by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games – so there’s no shortage of inspiration for budding songwriters.

If interested please see a member of the music department for more details
