In order to maintain the schools strong links with Mearns House Care Home during the current situation, Mr McKee and pupils from Personal Development, led by Sam in S3, have created the ‘Mearns Times’.
This newspaper is distributed twice a week and contains stories, quizzes and puzzles to keep the residents entertained. Crucially, these are all good news stories and aim to stimulate discussion. Feedback has been great so far with the Activities Coordinator saying:
“Thanks so much for this once again and we are delighted you are able to keep it going. The Sudoku was a great idea and some of the residents love it!”
This Friday, 4th September, will see issue 22 distributed, a great effort by all.

The University of St Andrews is one of ten UK universities which facilitates the Sutton Trust Summer School: a unique summer programme for S5 pupils, provided free of charge. As a participant, pupils will gain an insight into life as a first-year undergraduate through attending academic subject strands taught by leading experts. Subject strands often combine two or more areas, allowing pupils the chance to explore a range of possible courses and develop key academic skills before committing to university study. Pupils will also receive valuable advice on making UCAS applications, as well as on finance, careers and accommodation options.
Applications close on the Thursday 8 March 2018 at 5pm.
All teacher verifications must be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 15 March 2018.
The S3 Personal Development class delivered a wonderful party for the children of Maxwell Mearns Castle Nursery. As well as creating beautiful decorations for the party, the PD pupils led the children in games and songs and performed an original puppet show they had written.
