THE MEARNS TIMES

In order to maintain the schools strong links with Mearns House Care Home during the current situation, Mr McKee and pupils from Personal Development, led by Sam in S3, have created the ‘Mearns Times’.

Mearns Times 28th Aug

This newspaper is distributed twice a week and contains stories, quizzes and puzzles to keep the residents entertained. Crucially, these are all good news stories and aim to stimulate discussion. Feedback has been great so far with the Activities Coordinator saying:

“Thanks so much for this once again and we are delighted you are able to keep it going. The Sudoku was a great idea and some of the residents love it!”

This Friday, 4th September, will see issue 22 distributed, a great effort by all.

Planning future engagement – Tackling the School Run East Renfrewshire

For the last few months East Renfrewshire Council Roads & Transportation Department have been collecting information on school travel in the area and how streets and spaces nearby schools are being used during ‘the school run’. This is to assist developing long term plans on how we invite more walking and cycling, while discouraging car use, to help create safer and healthier school streets.

A key part of this work is how we engage with schools, stakeholders and the community moving forward. We would therefore like to invite you to one of a series of workshops planned during February to help shape future engagement efforts.

Please register you interest via links below and please share within your networks. The more people (of all ages!) that can get involved the better.

S6 Saltire Awards

A number of S6 pupils have successfully achieved Saltire Awards for a number of volunteering activities undertaken over the course of the year, both inside MCHS and beyond. Individual Awards are now ready for collection within the school office.

“Saltire Awards is the Scottish Governments national youth volunteer awards. They celebrate, recognise and reward the commitment, contribution and achievements of young volunteers in Scotland, aged between 12 and 25.

Young people gain nationally recognised certificates, signed by Scottish Government Ministers, for the different amounts of volunteering they do.

Saltire Awards helps young volunteers to reflect on, capture and communicate their learning and development gained through their volunteering.”

Many thanks

Mr. Hale (DHT)
