Available Courses

The following courses are available free for parents/carers in Scotland via the link below.

The courses highlighted in yellow are specifically targeted to teenagers and/or their parents.

  • 2. Understanding your baby
  • 3a. Understanding your child
  • 3b. Understanding your child with additional needs
  • 4. Understanding your teenager’s brain
  • 5. Understanding your brain (for teenagers only!)
  • 6. Understanding your child’s feelings (a taster course)
  • 7. Understanding your child’s mental health and wellbeing (accompanies 3a and/or 3b)

How to have meaningful career conversations with young people – Thursday 27 January 2022 (6.30pm-7.15pm)  

Parents and carers can learn more about the power of having meaningful careers conversations with their young person on a free webinar later this month.

Careers Advisers, Kay Hume and Mhairi Galashan, from Skills Development Scotland will talk about the key things to remember in steering career conversations. They will offer hints and tips as well as introduce parents and carers to My World of Work.

Following their online presentation, there will also be an opportunity to ask the Advisers questions to support your career conversation planning.

Foundation Apprenticeships – Parent Event

Skills Development Scotland and National Parent Forum of Scotland are arranging a session on Foundation Apprenticeships for parents and carers on Tuesday 14th December from 7pm-8pm.

This session gives the opportunity to find out about Foundation Apprenticeships including who they’re for, how they work and their benefits. During this one hour session we’ll talk through the value and equivalency of the qualification in terms of SCQF levels and UCAS points. We’ll also share pupil journeys and how Foundation Apprenticeships helped them progress onto a job such as a Modern or Graduate Apprenticeship, college or university. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
