For All Vocational Pupils

During these uncertain times the  Glasgow colleges are working to ensure the continued health and safety of our students and staff,  with the situation ever changing we are working to be as proactive as possible.  We are also aware that over the holiday period the guidance and current climate could possibly change, as of today each college has the following update with regards to delivery for January 2022.

City of Glasgow College

“In response to the Scottish Government’s advice on how reducing social contact may stem the transmissibility of the Omicron variant, all teaching and learning at City of Glasgow College is moving online as of the 10th of January.

Consequently, all programmes will be delivered via Teams when we return from our Christmas break.  This will be reviewed on a fortnightly basis, and we will be looking to get students back on campus as soon as possible”.

Glasgow Clyde College

“Will be closed on the first 3 days back in January (5th, 6th and 7th) and all learning will be online on those days.  That will give time to see what has happened over Christmas and respond to any government updates.

Glasgow Kelvin College

It is hoped that  classes will be on campus w/c10th Jan, but it may be the case that some classes have to move to on line or self directed learning.

The college is aware that there may be further guidance that emerges over the Christmas period that changes this revised date. A full review will be undertaken of any changes in guidance on the 6th January and local authorities will be informed by lunchtime on Friday 7th of any changes to delivery (on line or on campus) or further delays to starts”.

Vocational Course Delivery During Cop26

Please see the planned course delivery due to Cop26 traffic disruption, road closures, strikes, etc. (1st – 12th November).

All Glasgow Foundation Apprenticeships’ will be online.  West College Scotland Foundation Apprenticeships’ will be delivered as usual.

Please note – all students who’s courses are moving online during this period and who are over 16 should work from home during this time.

Those students who are under 16 or cannot work from home should report to Mrs Hamilton or Miss Crosby in Pupil Support.

Please ensure you have clarified these arrangements with your child prior to next weeks’ college sessions.

Building Craft Programme 2020 – 2021

The Prince’s Foundation Building Craft Programme 2020-21 is currently open for applications.

Application Deadline March 9th 2020.

Programme start date 13th July 2020 (8 months, full time)

https://princes-foundation.org/education/building-craft-programme-heritage-skills-nvq-level-3

The Building Craft Programme is aimed at craftspeople looking to bridge the gap between basic qualifications and becoming a master craftsperson working in the heritage sector. The programme is suitable for participants who have experience in their trade of choice, either via college or on-site experience, but are looking to focus more specifically on heritage and traditional building crafts. It is a full time, 8 month course which gives practical experience in traditional building crafts and an opportunity to gain a Heritage Skills NVQ Level 3.

The course structure consists of the following:

  • 3 week Summer School in London and Scotland.
  • 10 week live build project providing first-hand experience on site.
  • 4 months of work placements with master craftspeople working on traditional new building schemes and conservation projects across the UK.

Students will be awarded a full scholarship covering the course fees and will receive a monthly bursary of £1,000 to cover travel expenses and living costs. Accommodation is provided during the Summer School, Live Build and Placements.

This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to expand their knowledge of traditional building methods and conservation.
