Learning Disability Week

Birthday Wishes
One of our senior pupils, Katherine Butler has recently celebrated her 18th Birthday.
She had a party for family and friends and instead of gifts, she asked everyone to donate some money for a chosen charity.
Katherine is delighted to tell everyone that she has donated the magnificent sum of £444 to charity.
Well done Katherine on your very generous gesture.

mAIRwavesFM have posted a new recording.

Senior Assembly
Classes Arran and Shetland worked together to present
their assembly to all the senior pupils this afternoon.
They presented a whistle-stop tour of Scotland with music and dance.
Another first for IMS…… the students from class Shetland
supported our Reels on Wheels group, to a great
cheer from everyone.
Class Arran presented Anthony with a thank you card for being a great peer mentor to his friends. Well done Anthony.
Blast from the past
Delighted to have a visit from one of our ex pupils Daniel Forrest.
Daniel travelled independently from Greenock by public transport, train and bus to come say hello to all his old friends and staff.
It was lovely to see him and hear all about his time at college.
Thank You
Thank you to funding from the” Big Lottery Fund – Awards for All” we were able to provide some of our pupils with a week of fun, learning and amazing experiences.
Rachel from Everybody Dancing company spent the week with us providing the pupils with opportunities to move their body, be creative and communicate in a fun and engaging way.
Our final day ended with a showcase for parents and an evaluation of pupil progress.

Head Boy and Head Girl Presentation
Good luck to Alex and Sara who are attending the Head Boy and Head Girl presentation this morning at Eastwood House with Head Teacher, Sarah Clark.

Congratulations to Amy, one of our S4 students on her recent achievement.

everyBODY can fly………
Class Arran had to wait for their turn to bust some moves on
the aerial ropes.
Once they had a safety talk and demonstration from Rachel, they were all ready to go! Christopher was tracking Rachel during the demonstration, desperate for his turn.
Rob and Peter were the first to get harnessed up whilst the others watched.
Roll on tomorrow when they can have another turn and learn to make some spontaneous movements and have opportunities to communicate to their partner during start and stop activities.
Flying high………
Class Cumbrae were the first to experience the Aerial experience this morning with the “EveryBODY Dancin” company and Water Baby and Dancing Feet dance companies.
After the initial introduction of the staff and demonstration, it was all systems go….. Millie was so excited she was shouting out “Let’s get started”
It was lovely to see the pupils communicate for more, and using their feet to make movements. Alexander was pushing his hand against Rachel (@everyBODYdancin) to make his cocoon move.
I’m sure as the week progresses we will see the pupils much
more relaxed and making attempts to manoeuvre themselves
and create some moves with collaboration with their partners.
Aerial Experiences at IMS
Everything is all set for the Aerial experiences with Everybody Dance an Inclusive community and aerial dance company born from Blue Eyed Soul Dance.
Staff, including our dance specialist from Waterbaby Dance and Dirty Feet dance companies having some training and then the pupils are all set to fly…….. Exciting week ahead at IMS.

Congratulations to Emily for her recent certificate of achievement.
Emily has completed level 1 instruction on snow boarding at the Glasgow Ski and Snowboard school.
Harris and Orkney Assembly
Thank you to classes Orkney and Harris for organising our fun 80s themed assembly this afternoon.
Class Harris made a video story about Spring and Zain introduced it using his Proloquo2go app.
Class Orkney led a yoga session and then everyone joined in with some keep fit with Mr Holmes.

Barclays Digital Eagles
Thank You to the staff from Barclays Digital Eagles who have been working the pupils from classes Orkney and Shetland to learn to code in a fun and engaging way.
Non Uniform day
Classes Orkney and Harris have a special request from everyone before we break up for the Easter holidays.
They would like all staff an pupils to dress in their flashest 80’s sports gear, including headbands, leg warmers, leggings, trainers, tutus etc. No uniform required tomorrow .
They have a special surprise for everyone during their class assembly tomorrow afternoon.
Well Done
We are all so proud of Rachel Stoll.
She has successfully lost 1stone 1lb in 8 weeks.

Easter Egg Challenge
Mrs Goodlad and Mrs McKinnon from classes Tiree and Whalsay set their pupils and parents an Easter Egg challenge for homework.
All the pupils and staff had to decorate an Easter egg and bring it into school the next day.
