Applying for school
Parents and carers of children who will be five-years old between March 2026 and February 2027 should apply to register in either the local denominational or non-denominational school. You should apply for your local catchment school, even if you intend to educate your child privately or at home. If you wish to attend a school that is not within your catchment area or you will not be residing in East Renfrewshire in August 2026 you should complete a placing request application. If a child is not yet 5 years old on 1 August in the year which they are supposed to commence their primary education, parents/carers have an automatic right to defer their child’s entry to primary 1 until the following academic year. In such cases, children will be entitled to an additional year of funded early learning and childcare. For more information on the school application process click here
Moving On Groups
In Glenwood, we support children as they transition to primary school through our Moving On Groups in the final term. These weekly sessions support the children emotionally and socially as they learn about the similarities and differences between nursery and P1. We base this on the We’re Going On A Bear Hunt story. Parents can support this by encouraging their children to try some of the suggested activities at home. Each pre-school child has the opportunity to take home Travelling Bear – we can’t wait to hear all your child’s adventures with Travelling Bear!
