We have had lots of fun taking part in different science activities to celebrate Science Week. We were confident individuals making predictions about the outcome of different experiments, and were successful learners following different instructions.

50 Things Outdoors – Bird Watching

Responsible Citizens

In the garden, we also enjoyed using binoculars to look for birds.  The children have looked at a variety of different birds in many of their story books and were able to spot different birds in the trees during garden time.  The binoculars helped us see them a lot clearer and we even made bird artwork afterwards. It is so important that we look after the wildlife in our area.

Science week with the Snowdrops!

SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS/CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS/EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS/RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS

What a busy week the Snowdrops have had with all our exciting science activities.

We made balloons inflate by mixing water and bicarbonate of soda in a bottle with a balloon attached at the top. It was amazing!

We also made the coloured coating of Skittles dissolve in water when we poured water over them. It was so colourful and pretty!

We were amazed to see that raisins can move and dance. When we added raisins to still water, they sunk to the bottom but when we put them in a cup of fizzy water they moved up and down.

The Snowdrops also learned why it is so important to wash our hands. We did an experiment and used pepper as pretend germs. When we put our fingers in the plate of water and pepper, the ‘germs’ stuck to our fingers but when we put soap on our fingers, the ‘germs’ (pepper) moved away from our fingers.

Lastly, we made our own cress heads and learned about what plants need in order to grow.  We enjoyed feeling the compost, watering our cress seeds and making our cress head faces!

50 Things Outdoors – Stone Painting

Confident Individuals

On our return to school, the Sunflowers enjoyed searching for large stones in the garden.  We discovered that there were a variety of stones in different sizes , weights and textures. We each chose one to paint.  Each child painted their stone in a variety of colours and added their own designs. We then put them in our basket and looked at the variety of sizes and colours.

50 Things Outdoors – Water Play

Confident Individuals

When the sun was shining, the Sunflowers loved taking part in water play outdoors.  Our class enjoyed playing with animals, sensory toys and our tea set in the soap and warm water.  We were able to fill pots of water and pour them into the cups for each other.  Each child experienced splashes on their arms and body.

Fairtrade Fortnight – FAOL Enterprise

Successful Learners and Effective Contributors

The Sunflowers enjoyed a banana and chocolate hunt as part of our fair trade activities.  Each child took part in sorting the bananas and chocolate bars into colours and sizes and we managed to spot the logo which we have been learning about in our fair trade song. Afterwards, we coloured a variety of fairtrade foods and put them in the shopping trolley by ourselves.

Focused Areas of Learning – Partnership for the Goals – Team Working Challenge

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Planets class enjoyed a team building challenge. We set Levi 15 seconds to build a tower using 20 blocks. He found this very tricky and kept running out of time.

He decided to ask True to help. They still ran out of time. Then Chloe offered to help too. The tower was getting bigger but they were still running out of time.

Mrs Vernon, Miss Jones and Mrs McInally all helped too and finally with the help of a team, we beat the timer and built the tower of 20 blocks.
