Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe Daises are enjoying this terms theme all about dinosaurs. We have been exploring how shadows are created. We used a torch to shine on a variety of different types of dinosaur to see how their shadows look. Some of the boys loved experimenting with the direction of the light to show how the shadows changed. They moved the torch closer and further away from the dinosaur and we saw how the shadows shrunk and grew.
The Daisies have enjoyed learning about the Hindi festival of Holi. The boys loved that it was a colourful festival. We burst balloons filled with colourful powder to make colourful explosions and enjoyed mark making in the powder. We made Holi flowers using colourful rice.

The Daisies class have loved watching our ‘step back in time’ theme film called The Good Dinosaur. We have watched short clips over the last few days and have been through a rollercoaster of emotions.
Today, we used our knowledge to match characters from the film, identified our favourite character and explored dinosaur eggs. We had to crack them open, remove the slime and save the baby dinosaurs.

The Daisies class listened to a story called “Formidable Sid” yesterday. We looked closely at different pets and identified which animal was hiding behind the binoculars during a PowerPoint game. Finally, we identified what needs different animals have.

The Daisies class loved today’s visit to our local park. We walked there using our road safety rules, loved exploring the park equipment and playing with our friends.

The Daisies class enjoyed today’s World Book Day activities. We read “Rumble in the Jungle” story book and participated in related activities including animal shadow matching worksheets, reveal the animal binocular PowerPoints, animal jigsaws and animal themed play dough mats.

The Daisies class enjoyed focusing on Careers Week during today’s activities. We read a story called “Career Day’, watched a song showing the A-Z of jobs and participated in a reveal the job PowerPoint.
Some of us matched some familiar job symbols and others had to identify the career using the equipment as a clue to help us.
Finally we enjoyed a roleplay session where we acted out a range of jobs including police officers, fire fighters, nurses, vets and scientists.
We have been learning about fairtrade. We listened to a story about the journey of a fairtrade banana and enjoyed exploring peeling, cutting, mashing and tasting banana. We explored how the skin looked different on the inside and outside. We loved using the masher and watched how the banana texture changed from dry to wet
.
The Daisies have enjoyed following a visual recipe to make yummy pancakes. We were confident individuals when flipping our pancakes. We choose a delicious toppings to try our pancakes during snack.

The Daisies class enjoyed making fairtrade lemonade today. We explored the fairtrade logo through a range of songs, painted the fairtrade logo and then played a game of fairtrade bingo.
We explored the lemon including the skin and seeds. We practised our cutting skills by cutting the lemons in half, juiced the lemons and practised our stirring when adding sugar. Some of us were brave enough to taste the homemade lemonade!
