Today, P6 and P7 an outdoor water safety awareness course at LochDoon.
We learned about the hidden hazards within and around the water and how to correctly use the life-saving equipment strategically positioned around the loch. Both classes received essential lifesaving skills training including CPR awareness and defib training and were taught how to float in the water, should they find themselves in danger. They also learned invaluable information about cold-water shock, which is one of the main causes of drowning in Scotland.
A huge thank you to Scottish Fire and Rescue, Police Scotland, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Loch Doon Ranger Service, Forestry and Land Scotland for their informative sessions.
As part of our Health and Wellbeing delivery, the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenting topics are delivered to our learners this term. Please find attached parent information letters which detail the curricular outcomes for RSHP, as well as “suggested” vocabulary you may wish to explore with your children prior to commencement of the learning. These are organised by level.
RSHP is an important and valuable aspect of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum for all children and is taught sensitively and age appropriately according to government legislation. However, if you do not wish for your child to receive this input, please contact the school on 01290 338404 before Wednesday 10th May to let staff know.
Mrs Clapperton took our community group to Afton Court on Monday 6th February. They were given the very important job of painting fairy doors for Kilmarnock Fire Station Fairy Garden. They did a great job along with the residents of Afton Court and can’t wait to visit the garden once it a complete. We’re hoping to plan a games afternoon with Afton Court very soon!
