Bump Up Day PE Challenge

Hi everyone, my name is Mrs Scarisbrick.  I will be covering PE sessions for teacher Non Class Contact Time in Session 2021/22. This year I have been covering P1-3 classes for PE, Art and Outdoor Learning as NCCT so these children will already know me fairly well. Most of the pupils in the older classes know me from previous years when I was a class teacher. You may recognise me from the Twitter PE challenges I posted during Lockdown. Here is a great challenge for this lovely weather and it  is also good to get other people joining in when they are out a walk. We did it on the pavement past our house and it was amazing to see lots of passers by having a go on our trail, children and adults! You might find other people add actions to your trail – have fun.

Create an Activity Trail

You can either draw an activity trail with chalk outside or write activities on paper to lay on the floor for an indoor version. Make a trail with different activities for children to follow –for example: leap like a frog, giant steps, baby steps, twirly jumps, follow the line, side to side jumps, hopscotch, walking backwards, sprint finish, do 10 star jumps.

Here are a few examples.

National Numeracy Day

Numeracy Day Supporters | nn.org

Today is National Numeracy Day. You and your family can take part in activities by visiting the National Numeracy Day website. If you want to take a step towards stronger numeracy why not try the National Numeracy Challenge? This will assess your numeracy skills and you can find help and support for both you and your child. There are celebrity stories and a national competition to participate in! Please see the link below:

There is also a Family Maths Toolkit to support family learning in numeracy and maths. The Toolkit is full of ideas and free activities to help families enjoy maths together. There are a range of activities with a focus on where maths can be found in everyday life.

White Rose Maths have teamed up with TV presenter, teacher and parent Michael Underwood  to create a mini-series called Maths with Michael  for parents and carers. We understand that many parents feel like maths has changed and can sometimes find it difficult to keep up to date with modern teaching methods in maths. This series provides short videos showing how parents can support numeracy at home using concrete and pictorial representations.

Walk to school Week CHALLENGE

‘Walk to School Week coincides with Health Week next week from 17-21st May.

The JRSO have planned a week full of events to encourage participation in Walk to School Week.

Our main event is the EVEREST CHALLENGE.

We are trying to walk the same number of steps over the course of the week to school, as it would take to walk Mount Everest as a whole school.

We need 58,000 steps!

It would be great if we could all work together to achieve our challenge.

Steps can be counted by your child (an adult can help them), recorded on an activity watch or alternatively the internet can be used to look up the daily walk to school route for how many steps it takes. Teachers will then record the steps as a full class in the hope we can reach 58,000 by the end of the week!

The JRSO would also like all pupils to wear something bright each day; For example: bobbles, bracelet’s, socks, t-shirt, jumpers, shoes etc,  to encourage us all to stay safe while walking to school.

Thank you

JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers)

Board Games

The Parent Council are  looking for any board games for the school that people may not use anymore and would be able to donate? They don’t need to be new but they do need to be complete.

Please hand them into the school office.

Thank you for your support.
