Christmas Craft Afternoon

There will be a Christmas Craft Afternoon on Friday 15th, so that parents can come into school and help classes with their Christmas Craft!

Teachers were given some money to spend on crafty items to make something for the Christmas Fair!

We hope the Christmas Crafts are successful and everybody enjoys making them!

satrosphere trip

On Thursday p6b and p6a went to Satrosphere. They sang some songs on the way there and ate lots of sweets. At Satrosphere they got taught a lot of sciency things. A woman called Jen introduced “Science on the Spot” where they were taught things like if you get a small container and fill it up with water and drop a orange vitimin c tablet  in it , the lid would pop off .

Then, while the other class were doing “Science on the Spot”,  p6b went into the science lab and when we were in there Lola held a torch and Andrew, the person who was doing the theatre, held a lazer pen and we found out that the torch that Lola was holding was a lot more powerful than Andrews lazer because the normal torch would change colour, while Andrews laser was just be red and it wouldn’t change colour like Lolas. We also learned that if you take some fire to a balloon it would go BOOM!  PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !!!!!!

When they got to wonder around they played on a bike that if you pedalled hard enough a model train would move. Also at Satrosphere there was a green screen that if you leaned against it your image would come up in black. There was also a thermal camera and a skeleton cycling a wave machine and lots of magnetic things.

On the way back everybody was tired but had had  an enjoyable and  jam packed day.

Shoebox Appeal.

Volunteers from Vision Romania came to Gordon Primary last Friday to pick up the shoeboxes that have been donated by pupils and parents. A grand total of 80 shoeboxes had been assembled!

These will shortly be making their way to Romania, where they will be given as a Christmas present to young children in Romania. For these children, the shoebox will be their only Christmas present. We are sure they will be delighted with the contents!

Many thanks to all the people who put together a shoebox!

Remembrance day

On Monday the 11th of  November at 11 o’clock there will be a two minute silence to comemorate all those who fought in World War I and II and were killed in action.  Lots of the classes have made things to do with Rememberance day including p6b who made giant poppies.

Mental Mathematics Workshops

One of Gordon Primary’s main learning targets this year is improving Mental Maths skills throughout the school..

All classes have been doing daily mental maths activities.  Some teachers have visited other classes to observe and get some ideas about how to teach their class differently or improve their own way of teaching the class!

Before the Christmas Craft Afternoon on Friday 15th there will be a Workshop for parents about to help improve their childs Mental Maths Skills!

PTA Christmas Fair

Classes around the school are busy making items to sell at the Christmas fair, which will be held in the school on Thursday 21st November from 6.30 –  8.00 pm.

Classes are making things such as candle holders, key rings and Christmas decorations. There will also be raffles, a chocolate tombola and nail art. Teas and coffees will be served and the choir will be singing.

Shoe Boxes for Romania

On Thursday 7th  November the shoe boxes need to be in so that the people from Vision Romania can collect the shoe boxes and take it to Romania in time before the snow gets too bad.

The children in Romania would be delighted to recieve any christmas presants even if it is only something small like a packet of pencils and a pad of paper. Thank you to everyone who has donated items to go into the shoe boxes.

Halloween Crafts

Last Thursday Mrs Chalmers and Mrs Pettitt came into school to help P4B finish their crow masks.

The children decorated their masks with black feathers and glitter. They looked very effective!

The class then sang the scottish song “Three Craws sat upon a wa’. ”

Thank you Mrs Chalmers and Mrs Pettit for coming in to help us.
