Sports Day!

Sports for P2,3 and 4 started at the begining of school. My  team  had  to throw a football  in  a  tyre and parents came to watch us at sports day.  It  was  amazing at the start  but then it  got  hard. There  were16 stations. There were hurdles and javelin. It was exciting at sports day and the Ospreys 1, 2 and 3 won sports day and I was excited and I felt for the other teams.

Inter-Schools Commonwealth Games

On Monday 16 th  June 2014 p4b and p4a did our own commonwealth games with other local schools. The schools included were Rhynie, Gartly, Forgue and so on. Our country was Northern  Ireland and some of the  other  countries  were Australia, South Africa and Malta . We had great time! Our team did not  win but we did well.  The  Javelin was my favourite.  I threw it so far so it went past both of the cones!

Sports Relief Run!

Gordon Primary School were aiming to run the distance  from Huntly to Glasgow for Sports Relief, each class took turns to go down to the field with Miss Hext, who organised the activity. First there was a big warm up then they ran around the field as many times as they could manage. They nearly made it to Paris which was a lot further than they were supposed to go!

Everyone was aloud to wear something red to school and to bring a donation towards Sports relief.

We raised over £340  towards Sports Relief, kept fit and had fun all at the same time!  Well Done to everyone who participated!

Winter Olympics Sochi 2014

As you all probably know 4 lucky people  have been able to represent Huntly at the winter olympics.  These people are Rosamund Muskgrave,  Andrew Muskgrave,  Andrew Young and Callum Smith.  They are all competing in cross country sprint. Rosamund will be competing in the womans race and the Andrew.M, Andrew.Y  and Callum are competing in the mens race which is around 600m longer than the womans race.

The race was this morning and Andrew M got through to the Quarter finals but sadly did not make to the semi finals. Callum and Andrew.Y were not fast enough to go throught to the quarter finals. ( But I couldn’t ski a 1.5 km ski track in 3 minutes 50!!!!!) Rosamund sadly did not make it through to the quarter finals either but looked like she was having great fun.

Some of the classes watched the races and started cheering each time their name was mentioned and showing lots of support. Andrew Young is an ex pupil from Gordon Primary, so the school was very proud to be watching him compete in the Olympics.

Well done to all of them we all thought you did amazingly well!!

Judo

Primary 4 classes and primary 2 have been very lucky to be given two Judo workshops.

Stuart and Callum, two Judo experts came into Gordon Primary to work with the children. First the children did warm ups, playing fun games. They did a frog run.

They were taught to bow to their opponent and to speak some Japanese.

They learnt some simple Judo moves, such as using your chest to hold down an opponent. Stuart and Callum showed them how to do a judo throw; some of the pupils even managed to throw Stuart and Callum!

To finish off they played exciting games of tug of war.

They were reminded that judo is a martial art that you need to be trained in, and not to try it out in the playground.

Fortunately they will have a chance to develop their Judo skills and judo classes will be starting at Gordon Primary after school in the new Year (organised by Mark Borzoni from Active sports).

Many P4 pupils are keen to learn judo and are really looking forward to the lessons starting.

Netball club

On wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 there is a after school netball club. The  leaders are Miss P.S and  Mrs Fitzpatrick. It is great fun and everybody learns lot of new things, such as Passes, working as a team, positions and drills.

Thank you to  Miss P.S and Mrs Fitzpatrick for running the netball club and giving up their free time.
