Swap a book day sale

Thank you very much to the Learning council for organisisng Swap a Book day earlier this month. It was a great event and Gordon Primary hope it will happen again next year. The left over books were sold for 10p or 20p on the 28th March to raise money for the Learning Council. They raised £180, which will go towards Driel, Gordon Primary’s sponsored child.

World Book Day

The “Swap a Book”, organised by the Pupil Learning Council, was a great success. On World Book Day pupils and staff were able to choose a book from the many books that had been bought into school of the day.

It was an excellent way to “recycle” books that we no longer wanted, and to allow others to enjoy those books too.

The books that are left over will be sold next week for 10p and 20p..

Swap ‘A’ Book Day

The learning Council have organised “Swap a Book day” to coincide with world book day. Swap’ a’ book day is when you take in books that you dont want anymore and that your  parent says you can take them in. You can take one book in (or you could take as many as you want) and then you will be able to choose a book to take home. All books are free. Swap ‘a’ book day is on 6th March 2014. We hope we get lots of books to swap, so that everyone is able to choose a book that they really enjoy!

Learning Council

The motto that they came up with was – ‘Everybody has a Voice’!

The votes for the school motto have been overwhelming! Parents’ views were sought by some of the children at the Parents Evenings, and almost 100% were in favour of a motto!

Before the October Holidays, Dennis Robertson came into Gordon Primary to answer some of the questions that the council had came up with! They found out a lot of information about how to run a council, it was very successful!

Important Visitor!

A very important visitor came to visit Gordon Primary on Monday.

Dennis Robertson, MSP for Aberdeenshire West came to visit the Learning Council at lunchtime. The council had invited Alec Salmond, the first Minister to visit the school and give them advice about running a council.

Unfortunately Mr Salmond was too busy to be able to come, but we were very grateful that Mr Robertson was able to come instead.

Mr Robertson talked to the reps about running a council. He told them it was very important to listen to the views and ideas of others. He told them about elections, and described how he had to wait until 6 o’clock the morning following the last general election to find out if he had won the election. It was very tiring, but very exciting.

Mr Robertson was accompanied by his guide dog Mr Q.

He asked the children about their school lunches, and admitted that he was very fond of cheese and tuna paninis (which were on Mondays menu.)

The representatives really enjoyed meeting Mr Robertson and learnt a lot about running a council. We would like to thank him for taking the time to visit Gordon Primary School.

Learning Council Assembly

The Learning Council have thought of a school motto – Everyone Has A Voice!

This was first mentioned last term on the first Learning Council meeting by Skye!  At the last meeting the class representatives talked about having a school motto and had a think on what it could be! The end result was “everyone has a voice”. They have put out slips of paper to each class and all parents to vote to decide whether they would like this to be the school motto!

To persuade people to go with YES they presented a Assembly last week! They told everybody what a motto was and why they should vote for this motto.

The results should be revealed soon!

Learning Council

Gordon Primary’s new learning Council representatives introduced themselves at assembly last Wednesday and were presented with their badges.

They explained how the purpose of the learning Council was to improve the school. Each class in the school has two reps.

The Learning Council had their first meeting of the new school year on Thursday. Representatives were presented with a ring binder to keep notes and suggestions from fellow pupils.
