Huntly Express

When  we walked along the river Deveron  there  was  a lot of people  who stepped in dog mess. The next week we  wrote  a  letter  to the Huntly Express. They were so interested they  came  to the school. Five lucky people got in the Huntly express  and they are Ross, Caitlin , Charis  ,Emily and Harvey.  Pat Scott interviewed us  because its disappointing that there is so much dog mess  in Huntly. She put it on the front page because it was disgraceful  and we want Huntly to be a cleaner place.                                                   By Ross & Peter

Balhousie Open Day

On Friday 20th of June p4b are going to Balhousie for the open day. We are going with our class but our parents and grandparents are coming to admire our work. The butterflys are beautiful and I think they will brighten up the place.

The care home looks wonderful with all the butterflies. We will be singing two songs; “I went to the cabbages”and “Downtown”. We are all having our face painted but only if our parents give us permission. We are all looking forward to be going to Balhousie.

Inter-Schools Commonwealth Games

On Monday 16 th  June 2014 p4b and p4a did our own commonwealth games with other local schools. The schools included were Rhynie, Gartly, Forgue and so on. Our country was Northern  Ireland and some of the  other  countries  were Australia, South Africa and Malta . We had great time! Our team did not  win but we did well.  The  Javelin was my favourite.  I threw it so far so it went past both of the cones!

Class talks

Members of P4B have been doing talks about their interest/ hobby. The class have found out about a wide range of interests. Talks have included playing the chanter (with a lovely tune played by Lewis), football, mountain biking (which featured a wonderful video of Alasdair and his family biking through the forests and countryside and manga drawing from Sanya, who showed her artwork and talked about how her drawings have developed. Other interesting talks included Pokemon, Holland, WW Wrestling, animals, model trains, horse riding, dinosaurs and many others!

Moths Galore

Recently P4B have had the opportunity to observe two spectacular moths. First Clover bought her moth into school. She had hatched the moth out from a larva. Unfortunately once the moth hatches out it only lives for two weeks. The class admired its spectacular markings and some children were able to hold it.

A few days later someone noticed another large moth(a Poplar Hawk moth)  that had landed at the doors into the P4 area. Everyone had a chance to have a really good look at the moth, and we then told the P3s (who were out doing a mini beast hunt!) where it was so that they could observe it too.

Butterfly mania!

Primary 4B’s butterflies burst from their chrysalis on Monday to Wednesday. We let two out on Tuesday.  Mrs Sell let some two out; one of them sat on a flower and one of them flew off to enjoy their lives.

Then on Thursday Emily, Jack and Caitlin each let one out.

One had a badly bent wing that Caitlin gently let out and she put it on a pink flower.

The sadness is that they only live for two weeks, so they find a mate and have babies. So we wish the painted ladies luck!

Balhousie Visit

On the 4th of June on Wednesday the whole of p4b went on a trip to Balhousie.

At the care home we made butterflies and worked with the residents who joined in with making them butterflies.

We used different techniques to decorate our butterflies, such as paint, finger painting, tissue paper and collage. They are going to be hung up on the wall in Balhousie, but were going to continue with our art work next week.

Chickmania

P4’s Cute and Cheerful Little Chicks.

Mrs. Coutts brought some eggs and a incubator to p4b and we now have eighteen cute, cheerful little chicks. It takes round about 21 days for them to hatch. We got them on the first of May and they hatched on the 21st of May. The incubator does three jobs: keeps them moist, keeps them turning for 18 days and keeps them damp. When the eggs were hatching it was very exciting because we’ve not seen it happening before. There are three black chicks, one yellow chick and ten stripy chicks. Mr. Scrimshaw took four home.

Some people in P4b are taking some chicks home when the chicks are old enough. Mrs. Sell thinks that the chicks are going to have a good home. And we have had fun with them.

Mrs Coutts bought brought some chicks eggs into P4B. Now they’ve all hatched and they are so cute. My friend Peter calls one of them Benjyman and they are now in a box with food and water. The floor is sawdust and droppings – yes droppings. They’re fluffy and when they came out the egg they were wet! And not so cute. Now they play with each other and we are happy.

P4B Tadpoles

One week a pupil in our class 4b brought in tadpoles. There are about one hundred and some of them are growing back legs.We are feeding them rabbit pellets and chickweed. The bigger ones are more of a brown colour but the smaller are a black colour. The tadpoles are fast eaters! We are watching them change into frogs. There is one that’s a froglet all ready. We plan to release the frogs in the Bin Forest.

Deveron Walk

Last Week p4b went on a walk round the Deveron because we were looking for habitat for our salmon and I persoomed they will be Fry by now. We walked with Catrin Jeans from Deveron Arts. We went to the Deveron park and kept going down a little path then we walked further until we came to a big hole. Much to my surprise we saw cows waiting for us.We also saw lovely flowers. And I was carrying my bright yellow hat and suddenly a fly came on, then another and another and by the time I got back to class I had twentyfive flies in my hat. And yesterday I went with my dad and sister and did the same walk but we went right up the steps and right back to my house.
