P1 Nativity

On Tuesday 17th December the Primary 1 Classes did their Nativity, they did one show for the parents and another for the school! The parents and all the pupils thought it was great!

There were 5 children in Pyjamas narrating the story of the first christmas, the singing was great and they remembered the words really well, the songs were very merry! The Nativities are always good but this was one of their best ones!

P3 Assembly

Mrs Jamieson’s Primary 3 class shared what they have been learning in a very interesting assembly attended by staff, pupils and P3 parents.

The children had been watching the Nutcracker ballet.

The children thought about the main characters in the ballet, (Clara, the Nutcracker, the mouse king) and thought about wow words to describe them. They also described the setting of the story.

They wrote their own endings to the story of the Nutcracker. In science they made simple circuits, drew pictures of the Nutcracker and used the circuits to light up the buttons of their Nutcrackers.

They also really enjoyed watching the ballet and listening to the music.

Well done Primary 3; thank you for sharing your project with us!

Judo

Primary 4 classes and primary 2 have been very lucky to be given two Judo workshops.

Stuart and Callum, two Judo experts came into Gordon Primary to work with the children. First the children did warm ups, playing fun games. They did a frog run.

They were taught to bow to their opponent and to speak some Japanese.

They learnt some simple Judo moves, such as using your chest to hold down an opponent. Stuart and Callum showed them how to do a judo throw; some of the pupils even managed to throw Stuart and Callum!

To finish off they played exciting games of tug of war.

They were reminded that judo is a martial art that you need to be trained in, and not to try it out in the playground.

Fortunately they will have a chance to develop their Judo skills and judo classes will be starting at Gordon Primary after school in the new Year (organised by Mark Borzoni from Active sports).

Many P4 pupils are keen to learn judo and are really looking forward to the lessons starting.

Lepra Update

A representative from Lepra came to Gordon Primary on Wednesday to thank pupils and parents for their wonderful response to the sponsored workout. An amazing total of over £3,000 had been raised for Lepra!

She reminded pupils that it cost  £25 to cure a child from leprosy and told the pupils at assembly that they had helped over 120 children and had given them the best Christmas present that they could wish for.

She presented certificates to those pupils who has raised over £50 in sponsor money.

Well done to all the pupils and parents who raised such a marvellous amount!

The Comment and Suggestion Box

In assembly last week Mr Scrimshaw mentioned that he would like to hear your comments and suggestions.  So if you have any suggestions you can put them in the suggestion box outside the office. There is also a box for you to let the school know about your achievements, both in school and out.

P6/7 Trip (Careers Talk)

On Tuesday 3rd December, 47 pupils from P6 and 7 classes got a chance to go to AECC in Aberdeen to find out what the sort of  jobs the sea has to offer!

They arrived a little late and sadly missed the beginning of the presentation.  The presentation was about how they got the gas and oil out of the ground and the machinary they use to achieve this. Some of the equipment used is made up of more than 1000 pieces, they would use a crane to lower the machinery down to the site where they will be extracting the oil and gas, then  they will gradually build the machinary up so that they could extract the oil and gas from the pools underneath the sea!

The second talk was about renewable energy. Firstly, they discussed what sort of energy was renewable, the person that was explaining about renewable energy,  worked for the wind industry and he talked about how they made energy from the wind. He also explained about how they will soon be using the sea to get power from the wind because it is windier off coast and also people can’t see the turbines (which helps loads)!

The third presentation was about the sea animals in the Moray Firth, the lady told the pupils about some of the thousands of sea creatures in the Moray Firth!

The fourth speaker told the group about diving. He told them about how much pressure there is on top of diver when they are under water and how they use oxygen and carbon dioxide but they have to give the diver helium after they have dived 50m. He then told the group about helmets and how you could make a helmet from a bucket, you would just have to add some weights, a window and a tube for air! He then asked if Mrs McIntosh and 2 pupils could come up to try the helium, their voices were very squeaky!

Everyone really enjoyed theirselves!

P6/7 school trip ( The gym bit!!)

Yesterday some of the lucky P6/7s got to go on a school trip to the exhibition centre in aberdeen and the Beacon Boys gym in Bridge o’Don. You will find out about the talk at the exhibition centre somewhere else in the blog but I am going to tell you about the gym. The gym was really good. There were two coaches and lots of equipment!!
There was a very wierd bouncy floor, a floor beam, a beam, a couple of centre meters of the ground beam and a compition beam, parallel bars, a trapeze and a tramproline. All the girls on the trip got to try the beam they had to try and walk backwards on the beam none of them fell off the beam. There was also a very long  bouncy tramproline that was Really fun, but it wasn’t like your tramproline that you have in your back  garden,it was much bigger and  bouncier and made for gymnastics. Everybody got to go on the tramproline everbody really enjoyed it some people couldn’t stop laughing it was so fun. There was a volt wich was very springy that you would have to jump on and then land on a mat you were told to try and  land perfectly on the mat but it was hard. The boys got to jump over a horse (not a real one.) and hold their own weight on parellel bars and go along it. On the bouncy floor mat they warmed up with some running and some stretches then they cooled down after.

It was really good fun thank you to the two tutors Mrs McIntosh, Mrs Deadman, Mrs Duncan, Mr Copper And Ms Whyte.
