Week Beginning 20.11.17

Science

P6S have enjoyed working with the P1’s. This week the P1’s had to discover how to light a sun or other object with a light bulb and to use a fan. They absolutely loved it and learned a lot from the lesson. We also learned the history of how the light bulb was made. Last week we were investigating what effects the brightness of a bulb and other questions. We also learned about the history of electricity and how some of the people who first used it in their homes felt.

French

In French we have learned all the main colours and most common phrases. We transferred a French paragraph into English!

VCOP

In VCOP we reflected on cool connectives. In particular, the good ones! Now we need to use them in our writing!

Writing

6S have been writing ‘Thank you letters’ to Curl Aberdeen. Hopefully, they will love them. We have also been typing up our amazing novels.

Road safety

This week it’s Road Safety week. We have focused on some of the most useful ways on how to cross roads and walk by busy streets. 6S have also watched a video from 2 years ago of Miss Sharp’s old class, which promoted Road Safety around the school.

IDL

This week we have been focusing on our websites! We have also been finishing out second vlog for our voting. We have been working on our prototypes, they are coming on really well.

Week Beginning 06.11.17

This week we went to curling and had such an amazing time. We learnt how to throw stones on the ice. We also played games called popcorn, short curling and other games. We learnt that we had to push off with our strong foot and slide across the ice with one foot behind.

We had an assembly about anti-bullying week. We spoke about how to deal with a situation when there’s bullying going on.

We’ve been filming our group while they’ve been designing their product.

We met up with our P1 science buddies again and started to teach them all about circuits and what electricity is used for. We also told them that electricity is an energy source. We made it fun for them by asking them how to light the lighthouse keepers house using a working circuit.

We learned about limericks and that they can be funny and they rhyme.

Week Beginning 30.10.17

On Monday we had P.E with Miss Sharp, we started Tai Chi. In Tai Chi we learned that you have to imagine the story in your head and act it out. We learned a simple warm up exercise and a basic routine. The warm up was the bear claws, the butterflies, and the bear walk exercise .In the routine we had to be a string and then we were a tree, after that we did the ball steps. In the ball steps we asked our friends if they wanted a ball but they said no then we showed all our friends the ball.

On Thursday we had a school trip to Curl Aberdeen. When we finally got there we had to change our shoes into a clean pair so we didn’t get gravel or mud on the ice. We learned how to throw the stone but you didn’t have to actually throw it because it was way too heavy and then we learned why people sweep the ice. It is because the ice was bumpy and needs to be smoothed and more slippery.

On Friday we got to build our own working machine like things with instructions to follow. One group had a robot the other group got a dinosaur and one group got a helicopter. None of the groups finished but we all had fun and worked really well together.

We have also started to learn about circuits and electricity in science. We will be teaching the P1s about it again.

We also showed the rest of the ‘Road Trip’ presentations from last term. What an amazing set of tours the class had planned around China and Scotland!

It has been a fun start to term 2 and we have lots ahead.
