🌿Sgoil-àraich

Fàilte

Sgoil-àraich is our Gaelic nursery, based within the Gaelic Early Learning and Childcare class in the modular unit at the opposite end of the school.

We provide a warm, nurturing environment where children learn through play, relationships and rich experiences in Gaelic.

🗣️A’ bruidhinn Gàidhlig – Speaking Gaelic

At Sgoil-àraich, children begin to hear and use Gaelic naturally through play, routines and daily interactions. Here are some words and phrases we use every day:

  • Fàilte (fal-cha) – Welcome
  • Madainn mhath (matin va) – Good morning
  • Ciamar a tha thu? (kim-ar a ha oo?) – How are you?
  • Tha mi gu math (ha mi goo mah) – I am well
  • Tapadh leat (tapa lat) – Thank you
  • Deagh obair! (ja ow-ber) – Good work!
  • Suidh sìos (soo-ee shee-oss) – Sit down
  • Èist (aysht) – Listen
  • Thig an seo (hig an shoh) – Come here
  • Slàn leat (slan lat) – Goodbye

Children quickly become familiar with these phrases and begin to use them with confidence as part of everyday learning.

📅Visit Us

You and your child are very welcome to visit our ELC by appointment.

Please contact the school by telephone or email to arrange a suitable time and date.

🌈Enrolment

Enrolment dates are shared through local communication and school updates.

Children are eligible for up to 5 sessions, and families will be informed in writing once a place has been allocated.

🤝Starting with Us

Starting nursery is an important step, and we support this through a gentle, nurturing transition.

Families are invited to meet staff, share information about their child and take part in a planned induction process. Children attend with support as needed until they feel confident and settled.

Children’s learning is shared with families through Seesaw, our online learning platform.

⏰Our Day

Monday to Friday
9.05am – 3.05pm

Our days include a balance of play, outdoor learning, stories, creativity and opportunities to develop language through Gaelic.

🍎Health and Wellbeing

Health and wellbeing are at the heart of our ELC experience.

Children have access to milk, a healthy snack and, where eligible, a funded nursery lunch. Our meals are nutritious and designed to support growing, active learners.

🌱Additional Year of ELC

Some families may wish to consider an additional year of Early Learning and Childcare before starting Primary 1.

Staff will support you in making the best decision for your child, in line with GIRFEC principles.
