At Bowmore Primary School, we are incredibly fortunate to be at the heart of a supportive island community and to work with a wide range of partners who help enrich learning, wellbeing and opportunities for our children. These partnerships play a vital role in supporting our curriculum, health and wellbeing, Gaelic Medium Education, outdoor learning and wider achievements.

🩺 Health & Wellbeing Partners

We work closely with local and regional health services to support the wellbeing and additional needs of our children, including:

• Educational Psychologists

• Health Visitors

• Childsmile Team (toothbrushing and oral health)

• Speech and Language Therapy

• Physiotherapy

• Occupational Therapy

• CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services)

• MAYDS (Mid Argyll Youth Development Services)

These partners support children and families through advice, assessment and targeted interventions where appropriate.

🏃 Sport, Health & Physical Activity

We value the importance of sport and active lifestyles and work with:

• Live Argyll Sports Coaches – supporting Young Leaders and rugby

• MacTaggart Leisure Centre – providing swimming lessons for our pupils

These opportunities help children develop confidence, teamwork and healthy habits.

🌿 Sustainability & Outdoor Learning

We are proud to work with partners who support our commitment to caring for our island environment:

• Islay Development Initiative – beach cleans and recycling projects

• GRAB Trust (Group for Recycling in Argyll and Bute)

• Eco-Schools Scotland

These partnerships help our pupils develop responsibility for sustainability and their local environment.

These partners support outdoor learning, local history projects and environmental studies across the school.

⛪ Faith & Values

Local ministers visit the school regularly to support:

• Assemblies

• Religious and Moral Education (RME)

This helps pupils explore values, beliefs and respect for others within our non-denominational setting.

🗣️ Gaelic Language & Culture

We work closely with the Local Gaelic College in Bowmore, which supports our Gaelic Medium Department by providing:

• A space for events

• Opportunities for language learning and cultural experiences

This partnership strengthens Gaelic language, culture and community connections.

📚 Reading & Literature

We are supported in our love of reading and storytelling by:

• The Celtic House Bookshop

• Islay Book Festival

These partnerships help foster a reading culture and connect children with authors and books.

🎻 Music & Culture

We are very lucky to work with many traditional Scottish musicians who visit each February to teach our children as part of Fèis Ìle. This is a much-loved annual highlight and supports music, culture and confidence.

🎓 Secondary Transition & Wider Learning

We have strong links with Islay High School, supporting:

• Transition activities for pupils moving to secondary

• One-off science lessons and shared learning experiences

We also make excellent use of online partners to extend learning beyond the island.
