Our dino learning took us onto learning about habitats this week. We learned that habitat is the term for the place any organism lives. We learned that different habitats were suitable for different sorts of dinosaurs. For example, a diplodocus lived in the forest because it had a long neck suitable for reaching the tallest trees. We designed the habitat of our choice and learned about the features and climate.

Seachdain na Gàidhlig

Today starts a very important week – Seachdain na Gàidhlig – World Gaelic Week! The whole school will have a busy, Gaelic filled week. Today every class took part in an online Gaelic workshop with children from schools across Scotland.

A series of lessons the children underwent about budgeting and Greek culture specifically food. To begin we worked through researching Greek dishes and snacks, we wrote a recipe for Spanakopita. Then the class visited the co-op in groups and worked out change and cost to stay within a budget to purchase the food. We then talked about food preparation, hygiene and they importance of trying new foods. What a fantastic lot of chefs in the class. The class were investigators, researchers, accountants, chefs and kids learning whilst having fun! It not only linked into out topic but also the UNCRC the rights to research article 13, article 17, article 24 and article 31.

Seachdain Saidheans – Science Week

Seachdain Saidheans 13 -17mh Am Màrt

’B e ceanglaichean an topaig a bh’ againn airson seachdain saidheans am bliadhna. Leis a sin, rinn sinne obair air oighreachd, a’ sgrùdadh mar a gheibh sinn diofar feartan bho ar pàrantan.  Thàinig pàrantan a-staigh dhan sgoil gus pàirt a ghabhail ann an gnìomhan oighreachd.  Leugh sinn an leabhar “Na Stocan agus Na Stùcan” airson ionnsachadh mu oighreachd agus rinn a’ chlann na caractaran a cleachdadh taois-chluiche. Bha tòrr spòrs againn agus tha sinn cho taingeil gun tàinig pàrantan a-staigh gus ionnsachadh còmhla rinn.

Connections was the theme for this year’s Science Week.  We chose to learn about inheritance, learning about how characteristics are inherited from our parents.  We invited parents to join us for a fun afternoon to take part in inheritance activities. We read The Smeds and The Smoos to start off our afternoon and the children enjoyed making the characters using playdough. We had a lovely afternoon and would like to thank parents for coming in to help us to learn about inheritance.
