Fraser MacNicol and Alistair MacVicar, Young Ambassadors at Lochgilphead High School decided that one job they’d like do while they were in post was to raise funds so they could buy new strips for school. Together they organised a Non Uniform Day in November and pupils and staff in school paid £1 to come dressed in ‘sporty gear’ to show support for the cause. Argyll & Bute Seniors Football Tournament
On 26th March teams from five schools across Argyll & Bute competed at Lochgilphead Joint Campus for the inaugural ‘Argyll & Bute Seniors Football Tournament’. S6 pupils at Lochgilphead High School, along with the Active Schools Coordinator Jillian Gibson organised the tournament as a final opportunity for senior pupils to play competitive football for their school before they leave. STRICTLY comes to Lochgilphead
Lochgilphead Joint Campus glitzed and glammed its way to raising in excess of £1000 for Comic Relief on Friday 15th March as S6 students took part in a Strictly dancing competition. The students had been training for months with dance tutor, Laura Sweeney, and their efforts were finally unveiled to an audience of friends, family and staff. This was one of the most glamorous nights the Campus has seen and the students should be commended on their efforts – and their bravery. Well done!!
Lochgilphead High School Badminton Players
The end of January saw a really busy time for Lochgilphead High School Badminton players. For the first time since coming to the new campus, LHS hosted the MAKI (Mid Argyll Kintrye and Islay) Badminton tournament. Four pupils (two boys and two girls) from each year group took part in the competition which lasted for the whole day! Everyone played well and the event was very sporting and although we did not win all the events, we did dominate and win the S3, S5 and S6 tournaments.

Lochgilphead High School: S2 Outward Bound Trip
Eighteen S2 pupils along with two S4 mentor pupils attended The Outward Bound Trust Loch Eil Centre which is just outside Fort William from Monday 25 February until Friday 1 March 2013. Their first task was to jog from the centre to the nearby Loch Eil and then take a dip in the dark cold water. Scottish Schools ski qualifier – Nevis Range
On Thursday 7th February, a team of four skiers, Isla Fowler, Lawrence Lister, Connor McIntyre and Patrick Feeney from the high school, entered a ski competition at Nevis Range ski centre. After a very early start, 6:15am, we arrived in good time to have a warm up and study the slalom course. LHS S3 Skills For Work Enterprising events
Lochgilphead High School S3 Skills for Work pupils have taken part in a range of enterprising events. The following events have been organised and run by the pupils in the class. There was a quiz, treasure hunt, coffee morning and a demonstration from the things we are currently learning at College.
The events ran over a couple of weeks during January and February. The first event was the quiz for the S3 pupils organised and run by Kelly Crawford, Ashley Gorrie, David MacDonald and Lorne Harvey. The continued collaboration between Lochgilphead High School and SNH has reached new heights this month with the launch on VIMEO of the Snapberries video, a celebration of Snapberry Projects from 2009—2013. As part of Year of Natural Scotland this short film is a celebration of the Snapberry project showing a selection of the photos taken by students aged between 14 and 17. Lochgilphead Primary 7 Panto
On Thursday 6th December, Primary 7 put on the Pantomine “Snow White” to the members of the public. As the lights went out, the audience waited with anticipation to see what would happen. The curtains rose up and “Snow White” began. The Narraters started “Snow White” which went into the first song. There was the evil Queen and her evil cronies. The cast rolled on, like Snow White, animals, the woodcutter, the teeny tribe (7 Dwarves), Boffins, Hunters but who comes and saves the day, is the handsome and charimg Prince, his cheap aftershave dislodge what was in Snow Whites throat! A Very Merry Christmas Market
Friday the 7th of December brought the return of the Christmas Market back to Lochgilphead Joint Campus. This year’s market was yet again a huge success with a total of £ 2400.00 exceeding previous years’ totals. The hall was packed with a variety of stalls with different themes and goods. A particular success was the stall from the Technical department which was quickly sold out. Lochgilphead HS Wind Band SILVER PLUS SUCCESS
The members of Lochgilphead HS Wind Band travelled to Livingston on Sunday 2nd December to take part, for the very first time, in the Scottish Schools Concert Band Festival. The band played four pieces including an Abba melody and got a great reception from the audience. Miriam McKay, the band’s musical director was given particular praise from the adjudicators for her choice of repertoire and balance of parts within the band. S2 Outward Bound 2013 at LHS
On Wednesday 24 October thirteen of the Lochgilphead High S2 pupils that will be attending Outward Bound took up the opportunity to walk from the school to Bellanoch Bridge (on the Crinan Canal) and back. The walk which was a total of 11.5 miles (18.6 km) was arranged so that the pupils could raise funds towards their trip via sponsorship.
The walk was challenging and lasted from 9.30am until 3.15pm with stops at Cairnbaan for refreshments and Bellanoch Bridge for lunch. Continue reading S2 Outward Bound 2013 at LHS
Lochgilphead High School 4xl Enterprise Project
On Monday the 17th of September the 4xl group took a trip to Shearer’s Candles in Glasgow as part of their Enterprise Project.
The group were welcomed by Rosie who told them about the history of the company / factory and how it was developed. The group were then taken on a tour of the factory lead by Earkate who explained how the factory was run and explained the importance of health and safety within the factory. Olympic Fever! at Lochgilphead Primary
Over the last term Primary 2, 3 and 4 pupils at Lochgilphead Primary School joined together to work in co-operative groups to learn about the Olympics.
The children decided to have an Olympic Games event to celebrate their topic. All the groups worked towards this event by planning, organising and managing the 20 different sports stations. It was a fantastic day and the children were very proud that their hard work produced a successful event!
