The continued collaboration between Lochgilphead High School and SNH has reached new heights this month with the launch on VIMEO of the Snapberries video, a celebration of Snapberry Projects from 2009—2013. As part of Year of Natural Scotland this short film is a celebration of the Snapberry project showing a selection of the photos taken by students aged between 14 and 17. We’re very grateful to Moby for allowing us to use “Homeward Angel” as soundtrack.

Snapberry uses photography to connect local school students with the astonishing natural landscape of Argyll. It is a collaboration project between Scottish Natural Heritage and Lochgilphead High School with digital imagery allowing the participants to express what they see and feel about their local environment. Under the expert guidance of Lorne Gill, SNH’s photographer and organised by Caroline Anderson, the pupils are asked to look for the art in nature by finding colours, shapes and patterns and taking photos from different angles.

There are no barriers to this project, the photos you see on the video, have been taken on a range of devices from the students mobile phones to DSLR cameras. Each year a selection of the student’s images can be seen at Argyll’s only outdoor exhibition space, The Piggery, Taynish National Nature Reserve as part of the ArtMap Argyll Open Studio event in August. The highlight of the year however, is the outdoor projection of the student’s images during the annual Lantern Procession in Lochgilphead in November. This project is eagerly awaited each year by the pupils who are keen to take part and the community who look forward to the exhibition and the projection.
