Primary 1 and 2 at Rothesay Primary have been working with Patricia McArthur from Rothesay Library and Shiona Lawson, who works in our school Resource Centre. Patricia brings in a copy of our ‘book of the month’ for each pupil and with Shiona, tells the stories through arts and craft activities that the pupils can do in school and at home.

Rothesay Joint Campus raise £1320.62 for Comic Relief
Everyone at Rothesay Joint Campus took part in a host of events on Friday to raise money for Red Nose Day. In the Primary, P6-7 and P7 organised various activities including ‘red nose and spoon’ races, beat the goalie, face painting, hair/nail salon, dress-up karaoke, cupcake decorating, ‘red nose’ treasure hunts, sponge the teacher and a power hoop challenge. Red noses were sold throughout the school.

We are GLOWing at Rothesay Primary!
Several classes at RPS are working on blogging in connection with John Johnston of GLOW. We are working through tutorials with the classes through GLOW Meet and having lots of fun getting involved! The pupils will learn more about GLOW during the process and work on their communication skills!
Rothesay Primary: Outstanding P7 Burns Supper!
What a fantastic afternoon at Mount Stuart for the P7 Burns Supper. The children led the whole event from the Selkirk Grace to the Vote of Thanks. We had recitations, songs, instrumentalists and highland dancing… a full afternoon celebrating the life and work of Robert Burns. Miss Henry and Mrs Watson wish to thank Mrs McKirdy and Mr Briggs for their efforts, Mount Stuart for the use of their premises, MacQueen’s Butcher for donating the delicious haggis and local farm Birgidale Butts for the tatties and neeps!

P7 Dragons Den at Rothesay Primary 2014
Primary 7 pupils at Rothesay Primary wowed the ‘Dragons’ with innovative inventions at their Dragons’ Den event on Friday 5th of December. Each pupil designed a product, composed a pitch and made a model. These ideas were presented to a panel of ‘Dragons’ – local business people who gave up their afternoon to grill each pupil on their product, and choose the award winners.
Children in Need
Primary 7s at Rothesay Primary organised a Bring and Buy Sale, held a Pudsey raffle, sold popcorn and Pudsey merchandise, raising a whopping £1060.50! This is the most money we have raised for Children in Need! Well done to the pupils of Primary 7 and all the adults who helped on the day. We also appreciate all the items that families donated to the sale, thank you!
Road Safety at Rothesay Joint Campus
The Eco Committee has been working with PC Heather Simpson on the 20 mph speed limit area outside the school. Heather told the pupils that when the lights flash it means that drivers are reminded to be aware of pupils traveling to or from school and to slow down.
Rothesay Primary WW1 talk
Pupils from Primaries 5-7 had a fascinating interactive talk from Stephen Grant, a Children’s Worker from Hope Hall Church, Bridge of Weir this morning. The talk was based on a WW1 stretcher bearer – Willam Coltman, whose grandson is a friend of Stephens. He talked to the children about William Coltman’s upbringing and how his strong Christian beliefs and faith helped him choose to join in with the war effort in 1914 as a medic to help his fellow man.
Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2014 at Rothesay Primary
Rothesay Primary had a fantastic start to the day today with an inspiring talk and production by Neil Adam and Judy Turner, visitors from Australia, as part of the 2014 Scottish International Storytelling Festival. Our visitors were organised by Patricia McArthur from Rothesay Library and they were a huge hit with Primary 6 and 7 pupils from RPS.

Rothesay Primary School P7 Beetle Drive
Miss Henry’s P7 class have excelled themselves this week with their Beetle Drive. A total of £541.36 was raised at the event. We had a grown-ups raffle, a children’s raffle, a tuck shop and 9 exciting games of Beetle Drive! The pupil council sold ‘kabooglies’ (rocks from the beach made into little creatures with paint and googly eyes) and George Reynolds sold delicious cupcakes made by his mum and gran. A bonus game was played at the end in aid of Jeans for Genes, raising £57.
Food to Fork Adventure for Rothesay Primary
Rothesay Primary Eco Committee visited Tesco in Greenock this week to learn more about where their food comes from. Ruth Sharkey set us our first task – to find a rainbow of fruit and veg, name them and find their country of origin. Robin was amazed to find his bananas came all the way from the Cameroons! Next we ventured into the deep freeze! At -12 degrees we had to dress up very warmly. Ruth told us that it is important to keep the food very cold and that the freezers usually run at minus 20 brrrrrr!

Cycling Proficiency Success at Rothesay Primary
After many weeks of studying cycling and road safety theory and practical sessions in the playground and on the road, Primary 6 were finally ready to sit their cycling proficiency in June. We were all very proud of everyone who took part and passed with flying colours.
Rothesay Primary would like to thank the parents and staff who worked with the pupils enabling them to achieve success. The smiles in the photo say it all!
Rothesay Primary Young Green Fingers!
After months of sowing, weeding, transplanting, weeding, watering and weeding (!) Rothesay Primary were delighted to have some fine produce for the Rothesay Horticultural Society Show. We carefully choose our best fruit and veg and got them ready for the show bench. We entered two varieties of tomato, black grapes, peppers, yellow courgette, runner beans, peas, curly kale, pears, rhubarb, onions, carrots and a whopping marrow!
Rothesay Primary Visit Mount Stuart
P5/6 and P6 enjoyed a fantastic day trip to Mount Stuart on Bute. Half the group had an extra special tour of the house which visited some areas not seen on regular tours. The other half explored the extensive grounds. They found out lots about the Victorian Era which has been their latest Topic. After a picnic lunch in the courtyard the groups swapped over. They ended the trip with a delicious cream tea provided by Mount Stuart.
Commonwealth Games
Rothesay Primary were delighted to be asked to send another 50 pieces of art for the Commonwealth Games Athlete’s Village. Initially, we sent 10, as the winners of an art competition, but Game On Scotland were so impressed with our entries that they asked for more – a lot more!
Dragons’ Den at Rothesay Primary
Primary 7 had an exciting week working on their Dragons’ Den interdisciplinary project. Local business representatives from the community were our ‘Dragons’ on the Friday and grilled each pupil on their idea. Each entrepreneur had two minutes 30 seconds to pitch and take questions. Our Dragons were: Alec Bennett, Lorna Campbell, Billy Miller, David Anderson, Denise McMillan and Stuart Shaw. Rothesay Primary wish to thank each of them for giving up their time for our event. Rothesay Primary Scots Day
Rothesay Primary celebrated Book Week Scotland by learning more about the Scots language. Richt guid tales have been written, sangs sung and poems learned by heart. Pupils shared facts aboot famous Scots they admire and have voted for their favourite Scottish authors as part of the Scottish Book Awards. The finale to the week for Primary 1, 2 and 3 was a Scots Ceilidh. Primary 2 and 3 wowed us with their ‘St Bernard’s Waltz’ and ‘Canadian Barn Dance’ and we were fair dumfoonart with their rendition of ‘Is a dove a doo, dad?’ which has 5 verses! Rothesay Primary Pre-5 Pudsey Pyjama Party!
Rothesay Primary Pre-5 had a very lazy day in their pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need. We had a sleepover (well not much sleeping actually!) and listened to stories as we snuggled up.
After all that hard work we counted all the pennies in our bucket and found that we had raised £45.91! Well done everyone.
Rothesay Primary Pre-5 Celebrate Diwali
Rothesay Primary Pre-5 recently enjoyed celebrating Diwali, the Hindu ‘Festival of Lights’. We painted rangoli patterns on our fire-door and made little diyas to light up the Pre-5. Primary 3 invited us to their school assembly. They told us the story of Rama and Sita and we visited their classroom to find out more! At the end of the week we dressed up in our best clothes and had a party with indian food for snack.

P2/3 and P3 of Rothesay Primary visited Mount Stuart to find out more about Autumn. They enjoyed a beauitiful frosty, bright day. They made pictures using the natural resources found around the grounds. Thanks to Mount Stuart Staff for help and hospitality.
