Rothesay Primary Scots Day

Rothesay Primary celebrated Book Week Scotland by learning more about the Scots language. Richt guid tales have been written, sangs sung and poems learned by heart. Pupils shared facts aboot famous Scots they admire and have voted for their favourite Scottish authors as part of the Scottish Book Awards. The finale to the week for Primary 1, 2 and 3 was a Scots Ceilidh. Primary 2 and 3 wowed us with their ‘St Bernard’s Waltz’ and ‘Canadian Barn Dance’ and we were fair dumfoonart with their rendition of ‘Is a dove a doo, dad?’ which has 5 verses! We were also lucky enough to have Mark McLachlan (S3) who played a selection of his favourite pieces on the pipes and Daniel McDermott (S6), also a piper, who recently was accepted as a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Daniel also played for our Highland Dancers who danced a braw Highland Fling. To finish our ceilidh, Primary 1 and 1-2 taught us how to do the ‘Shooglie Wooglie’ which is a bit like the ‘Hokey Cokey’ but you pit in yer haunds, yer hurdies, yer een, yer baldie heid and, of course, yer big bahoochie!

We have had a wonderful week and lots of fun, learning about Scotland and the Scots language.
