Food to Fork Adventure for Rothesay Primary

Rothesay Primary Eco Committee visited Tesco in Greenock this week to learn more about where their food comes from. Ruth Sharkey set us our first task – to find a rainbow of fruit and veg, name them and find their country of origin. Robin was amazed to find his bananas came all the way from the Cameroons! Next we ventured into the deep freeze! At -12 degrees we had to dress up very warmly. Ruth told us that it is important to keep the food very cold and that the freezers usually run at minus 20 brrrrrr!

After that, Ruth brought some unusual fruit for us to try. Although one or two of us weren’t keen to try new things, we were all soon munching on everything. It just goes to show you should always give new things a go. Next we learned the names of all the fish and seafood. The lady made us laugh by pretending to make the fish talk!

Finally, we warmed up in the bakery where the baker showed us the huge ovens and made a special extra large pancake for us all to share. Then the lady at the till priced us all at 60p and it was time to go.
Ruth very kindly gave us some seeds for our school garden and said she would come to visit us in Rothesay. She also gave us goody bags and some cookies because she said eating healthily is all about balancing healthy foods with the occasional treat.

The Eco Committee had a great day and would like to thank Tesco for looking after us so well.
