Merry Christmas Everyone!!

102_4303It’s been a fun filled week in Primary One. After our star-studded performance on Tuesday morning we partied away all afternoon and enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus. He seemed confident we were all on his nice list! On Wednesday afternoon we had the opportunity to share our learning with our buddies when they came to see Fairyland and helped us make clocks and carriages for Cinderella. Then on Thursday afternoon it was the buddies turn to lead the activities during our Christmas Art afternoon. We hope you like our snowmen and Christmas lights!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our Primary One families for their support this year and for their generous Christmas gifts. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you all again in 2016.

Christmas fun with our buddies

Yesterday afternoon P7 really enjoyed spending time with their P1 buddies. We prepared two craft activities for our buddies to complete and we were very impressed with what a lovely job they made of them! It was great to spend time together and help our buddies get creative.

We also delivered ‘top secret’ diaries from an elf and spent time reading these together. We couldn’t believe how bust elves really are at this time of year!

P7 would also love to thank Primary 1 for a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday! We loved joining you for your topic afternoon and learned lots about Fairyland! You all did a great job making clocks, wands and building a carriage for Cinderella. Thank you for inviting us!

P6 Update

I loved Hopetoun House – Kayleigh.

I really, really, really enjoyed making the News Report at Sky – Alexander.

I thought Christmas Lunch was YUMMY! – Olivia.

I loved making the news report at Sky, particularly using the camera – Lochlan.

We’ve been getting on really well this week with our #RandomActsofKindness – have you seen us around? – Daisy.

At Hopetoun we got to make butter and buttermilk – in class we then tasted this on pancakes and crumpets! I’d give it 10/10! – Shefali.

Come to our class to see more….!

Getting Creative with Displays…

In P6 we are all getting more involved with the creation of our displays. Many of us suggested seeing our learning, events and activities in class would add an interesting and fun feature to our classroom environment. We have chosen key photos from Term 1 and 2 and are starting to add them to our class ‘Photo Gallery’ … we’re so excited to keep adding to it as the year goes on.

Zander and Callum designed the layout of our gallery… have a look next time you’re walking by P6B!

Here’s a taste of just some of the photos from our Class Photo Gallery…

Book Project – P4 and P6

Primary 4 pupils have been working with their friends in Primary 6 to jointly write a story book called “Zero to Hero” with the theme of Growth Mindset. The author Mary Turner Thomson is supporting the children in the creative writing process. We are all looking forward to seeing the final book and becoming published authors! The book will be on sale to the school community in the near future. Watch this space!

P7 – A Busy Few Weeks!

We are all excited to start Term 2 of P7 (can you believe it?!) and look forward to all of the new challenges it brings. We had a very busy few weeks before the October break and the holiday was well deserved! Camp was a huge success and the children were fantastic. Each child demonstrated enthusiasm and particpated in all activities, whether they were taking part, ‘belaying’ or encouraging their peers. It was inspiring to see how the boys and girls were so supportive of each other! Thanks to parents and carers for their support with camp preparations, too!
The week after camp was extremely busy too! On Tuesday, we visited the Sky Skills Academy and learnt how to make a news report for TV. We learned so many skills that we can transfer and take back to school. Directors, producers, camera operators, reporters, witnesses, and editors were just a few of the jobs involved. Mrs Carral and Miss Brown were sure they could spot a few future stars and ‘Oscar worthy’ performances! There were some fantastic individuals behind the camera too who kept things running so smoothly!
Then, on Wednesday, we visited The James Young High High School for the German Language Adventure, where we played some fun games and learned German phrases! We explored JYHS to find various clues and questions. It was great to explore the high school too, especially for those of us that will be going there next year!
On Thursday, P7a visited Lowport where they enjoyed cycling and canoeing after winning the ‘Cycle to School Competition’ when they were in P6. They had another action packed, fun filled day, gaining confidence and new skills!
Term 2 is another busy one, with our upcoming camp assesmbly, where we will be sharing with the other pupils our experience and some advice (especially for P6!) about what to expect! We will also be preparing for a Children In Need assembly so we encourage all the boys and girls to think about at home some fun ideas! Our WWII topic will be starting soon and we are sure the children will be excited to share what they know about the topic and what we will be learning.

Democracy and Dictatorship

As part of our Citizen 7 topic we have been developing our research and presenting skills! We worked together in groups to find out information about either Dictatorship or Democracy. We had to use what we found out to create a presentation. We presented these to other groups and brought together what we learned on a poster by listing 5 facts we learned from the presentations. We also evaluated how we thought our groups worked together. We are looking forward to learning more about the Scottish Parliament. We will keep you posted!

Campaign fun in P7!

It has been a very busy few weeks back in P7! We began our journey towards deciding on our Head Boy and Girl and their deputies in the first week back and it has been quite a roller coaster ride since then.

It started with speech writing and thinking about our skills and qualities. Speeches were delivered and P7 voted. The top 5 girls and top 5 boys were decided. Campaign groups were then put together and it was time to write slogans, make posters and create jingles. Each group created a short video which was then shown at a whole school assembly and candidates were given the opportunity to deliver a speech. A whole school vote took place and all pupils from P1 to P7 and staff could vote for who they thought should be Head Boy and Girl. Votes were counted and the results were announced today.

Well done to everyone in P7 for their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication!
