i-Love Literacy Showcase

i Love Literacy Itinery

Wow!

What a day celebrating all of our children’s achievements across literacy and especially in writing.

We loved hosting renowned author, Stuart Reid, who worked hard to read and judge many pieces of writing from Nursery-P7.

Thank you to our many parents and carers who visited for a cuppa and a Q&A with Stuart and then went to our classes to share our children’s learning.

How could you SWAY?

Calling all Williamston Learners … Nursery to P7!

Have you heard of SWAY?

How could you use it?

As a learner too… I have loved learning to use Sway. But, I’ll be honest, it has taken me a little while to really like it (And a lot of exploring!). So… my Term 1 challenge for you is…

Can you use Sway? What could you use it for?

There will be a #DigiRecognition for the best class and best learner for Sway this term… could it be you?

Here’s a Swayhttp://<iframe width=”760px” height=”500px” src=”https://sway.office.com/s/pHiN0U8S2GAtKcbG/embed” frameborder=”0″ marginheight=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ max-width=”100%” sandbox=”allow-forms allow-modals allow-orientation-lock allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts” scrolling=”no” style=”border: none; max-width: 100%; max-height: 100vh” allowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen></iframe> to let you know how we could all use it… what do you think?

Have a GO! And – SHARE!

I can’t wait to see more.

Support for Learning

We are working hard to Get it Right for Every Child…

Supporting learning happens, first and foremost, in and across all of our classrooms. This term, Mrs K. Gray, will be spending time in all classes helping to support writing (see our School Improvement Plan). Additionally, there will be a number of different interventions running specifically to target spelling (IDL and Outdoor Spelling), Reading (Read, Write, Inc. and ReadingWise) and Maths & Numeracy (SEAL and 5 minute Box Time).

In order to best support the health and well-being of our pupils we will continue to run our Nurture Clubs (The Monday Club and Outdoor Skills Club) too.

Follow our School Twitter Feed to see what we are doing on a day-to-day basis and see our learning, as it happens…

Welcome to Williamston 2018 – 2019

To all of our pupils, Nursery-P7, staff and families, a huge WELCOME BACK to Williamston!

We want to extend a special welcome to our new children in the nursery and P1 and new families joining our school community too, we feel very lucky to have each and every single one of you.

All classes have been super busy these first few weeks, community building, establishing class rules and charters, recapping literacy and numeracy learning and sharing our knowledge and understanding of each other.

More information to come from classes… but for now… KEEP CHECKING TWITTER TOO for updates.

Enhancing our Literacy Skills

Some of our learners have been trialing and testing a new online literacy learning zone – IDL.

IDL is a quickfire module based learning program, based on improving spelling, reading and writing skills and is suitable for all learners. You can use it both in and out of school and on both computers or devices. IDL uses a multi-sensory approach through sight, sound, touch, and voice to improve reading and spelling and links are made between the visual, auditory and tactile pathways.

Once our children have used the program for a sustained amount of time we look forward to sharing our findings and exploring with more of our classes too.

Using Technolgies Across the Curriculum

A few P7’s have been asking how we make our ‘word pictures’ in school.

After taking 2 minutes to explain… they knew more about it than ME!

SO … either ask Libby or Ruby (P7) or follow these simple steps…

  1. Log onto the internet through SAFARI OR INTERNET EXPLORER (NOT CHROME).
  2. Follow this link… http://www.tagxedo.com/
  3. Create away!

Share yours if you make one 🙂

Safer Internet Day 2018

At Williamston we are passionate about digital technologies and equipping our children with skills that they can apply to all aspects of learning.

Today is ‘Safer Internet Day’ and this week all classes will be celebrating this by exploring how we use the internet, why we use the internet and, most importantly, how to stay safe and secure online.

Read Write Inc.

What do you like to READ?

Read Write Inc. is a reading intervention to help support learning within reading, aimed at P2-P5 children. Our Read Write Inc. programme provides a cohesive and creative approach to teaching children to read.

Here are some links for a little flavor of the teaching approaches if you want to have a browse at home…

Target Setting

A really important part of a learner’s journey through school focuses on these key questions:

  1. What do you know?
  2. What do you enjoy/like?
  3. What would you like to get better at?
  4. How can we make these improvements?

Taking this into consideration, these last few weeks have involved lots of planned learner-teacher conversations, assessments and planned support interventions. There will be an opportunity to speak more about this process at the upcoming parent consultations, but for now, here’s just one way we have been documenting this… TARGET SETTING…
