This morning, the Eco Committee spent a morning building a shelter using materials found lying on the ground around them in the forest. They worked hard and worked as a team to create a super water-proof and cosy den. Now they are planning to share these skills with others in the school by organising a den building event.

Parent Council Meeting
The first Parent Council Meeting of the new session will be held in school at 7pm on Thursday 15th September. We look forward to seeing you there.
Meet your new Eco Committee!!
Your new Eco Committee consists of one pupil from each year group. They are full of enthusiasm and are looking forward to helping us all become more aware of how we can take care of our environment. Their first job will be to get us all involved in carrying out a review of our school, then they will set targets for the year based on the results of this review.

Another busy week in p1/2
We started our topic of minibeasts this week and have used it as a context for learning across much of the curriculum.
Brodie enjoyed hunting for minibeasts in the playground in the rain on Tuesday. He particularly liked the green caterpillar he found.
In maths we have been learning about symmetry and Stephen enjoyed painting a symmetrical butterfly. Findlay enjoyed using a laptop game to match symmetrical shapes and Ciara enjoyed using the 2d shapes to create a symmetrical butterfly (see photos below).
We read ‘The bad tempered ladybird’ and then wrote our own stories about a bad tempered minibeast and thought about what another creature could say to make the minibeast happy. Kaila enjoyed writing her story about a grumpy spider who ended up happy because a butterfly said it could share her bugs.
In number, P2s have been practicing counting forwards and backwards to solve addition and subtraction problems and Elyse has enjoyed this. P1s have been learning how to write numbers up to 5 and practcing counting using active activities and laptop games.

We have been busy getting organised for the busy year ahead. Since we have come back from the Summer holidays we have been discussing values and relating these to our classroom and creating a class charter.

Pokemon Go: guidance for parents
The following link will give guidance to parents about the Pokemon Go app, and how to ensure their children are safe if engaging with this highly popular game.
P1/2’s first week back!
We have been very busy this week welcoming the p1s into school and helping the p2s settle back into the classroom routines. Our p2s have been very helpful showing the new p1s what to do when they come in in the morning and what to do at the end of the day when we are getting ready to go home as well as helping throughout the day.
Here is a little snap shot of some of the learning we have been doing:
We read ‘The Rainbow Fish’ story and used it to think about how to treat of friends in class. We decided on our class rules and created a class charter which we all agreed to. Elyse enjoyed decorated her own scale to add to our class rainbow fish which will be our charter display. Maris thinks we have been following our class charter well by being kind to each other in the class and in the playground.
P1 have been busy practicing their forming their name and Callum enjoyed using pegs with letters on to make his name and the names of his friends. We have been thinking about the sounds in their own names and their friends names. We have all enjoyed drawing a picture of ourselves and writing our names in our big alphabet book, thinking about the first sound in our names.
P2 have been practicing the maths the learnt last year using laptop and group games which Josh has enjoyed. P1 have been practising their number recognition and counting skills through playing games in small groups.
We have all enjoyed the opportunity to work together and get to know each other more – Oliver has enjoyed creating things from Lego and learning how to use the iPads and laptops.
We are looking forward to a busy term learning lots of new things!
