People who Help Us – P1A

jobs p1

This week Primary 1 looked at how people help us in everyday life, as part of our Linlithgow focus. We started with a speaking and listening activity to get the children to think about all the different people who help us. We looked at all the people that do help us, like the police and fire fighters. We had to think about what the people who help us look like. We worked in pairs to think about how we could help each other. We played a Circle Time activity that got us thinking about what each person does as part of their job, using prompt cards. Primary 1 started to think about they wanted to do when they grew up to help people. They thought about which job they wanted to do and we wrote these ideas and reasons on a writing frame. We set up part of our classroom with role play masks. Role play is a great way to get into character. We were very lucky that we had a visit from a librarian at Linlithgow Library, Harrrison’s daddy, who is a fire fighter and Sienna’s daddy who is a policeman. We thoroughly enjoyed our visitors and Primary 1 showed fantastic manners and respect to our guests! We asked challenging questions and learned lots! Ask your child what they would like to be when they grow up!

Curriculum Rationale – Talking Heads

On Monday 21st March, we are hosting a Talking Heads session for parents and carers. We really value parental input and would like help to support the priorities in our School Improvement Plan 2016 – 2017.

We are looking for answers to the following questions:

  1. What makes Springfield/ Bonnytoun unique?
  2. What brings the curriculum alive for pupils?
  3. What is it we want for our children?
  4. What are we going to do to achieve it?

We are examining our current school vision, values and aims and want this to reflect the school community.

We would like our rationale to ensure the whole school community has a shared understanding of what we are trying to achieve. As our school moves forward, we recognise the importance of taking quality time to evaluate and review curriculum innovation and learn from evolving best practice.

We are really excited to host this session and look forward to lots of parents/ carers sharing their views and supporting us.
