Fitness Week in P2A

We have had a great week learning about healthy food and exercise. We had golf and football tasters which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had a great time at Sports Day and Miss Mudd was so proud of us for demonstrating all of our school values. We were so supportive of each other and had a great attitude towards the whole day. We really enjoyed the smoothie making. We got to make 2 smoothies and talked about which one we liked best and why. We have also been starting each day with a session of yoga to ensure we have healthy minds as well as healthy bodies. Even the teachers had an early morning Yoga session run my Miss Baillie. We learnt all about different food groups and the Eatwell plate. We even made our own collages of the Eatwell plate to show the different types of food we need to eat to have a balanced diet.

In IDL we were making more maps. We talked about our journey to school and drew a map to show our partners how we get to school. We then created a giant 3D map of Springfield. We worked in groups and used the construction materials to build some of the key landmarks. To extend our learning we then built some key landmarks in Linlithgow and talked about where they would be in relation to our school. This week we were also learning about Australia. Thank you to M for bringing in lots of photographs and objects to tell us about her time in Australia. A big thank you to Mr Turton for giving up his time to come and speak to both P2 classes about Australia. We learnt a lot and the children loved it.

We held our Springfield’s Got Talent auditions this week and will be choosing 2 winners to go through to the finals in the last week of school. A huge well done to all of the children who auditioned. They showed great courage and showed off just how talented the pupils are Springfield really are.

Grounds Clean-Up!

Thank you to OF in P5 and his Mum for helping to tidy up some of the shrubs in our school grounds last weekend.

What a great job and how thoughtful of you both!

We really appreciate it!

Football and Yoga P1B

Another busy day, we had a football session with a coach called Jordan this morning.  We played some games to practise our dribbling and then tried some shooting to score goals!

This afternoon we did some yoga, we all worked really hard and we controlled and moved our bodies very well.  Holding the positions isn’t easy and we had to use our muscles to try to balance.

We also did our daily mile this afternoon, the sun was shining and we were very fast.  We are all looking forward to Sports Day tomorrow.

P3/4 Home Learning WB 11.6.18

Home Learning WB 11.6.18

Please see link above for this week’s home learning.

As it’s fitness week, home learning is health related with practical activities.

There’s no numeracy home learning this week, just the usual spelling and reading.

From next week to the holidays it will just be reading home learning.

Have a good week!

Kind Regards

Louise

Golf and Haka in P1B

Hello, I’m going to write a short blog every day this week as there are so many activities going on for Health Week.

We began the morning learning the Haka.  This was not what I had planned, I had intended to so some relaxation and mindfulness but K suggested we try the Haka and I really liked that idea.  We loved making ourselves scary and pulling funny faces.  We’ll keep practising throughout the week.

We had a golf session from The Stephen Gallagher Foundation this morning.  We learned how to hold a club properly and practised swinging the club to hit the ball.  It was really good fun.

This afternoon we did some dancing and relaxation in the classroom and went outside for ‘Walk a Mile.’  I joined in with everything so there are not many photos!

Park and stride letter to parents

There will be a trophy awarded from Transition Linlithgow for the class that take part most each month.

Please let Mrs McAlpine know if your child is starting Springfield Primary, (maybe from nursery) after the holidays and you would like to join us after the holidays or start coming before the holidays.

If the trial is successful we will extend to every day after the holidays and possibly extend the route to become a ‘Walking Bus’.

Our Weekly News from SPS and Bonnytoun…

I started the week off at camp with P7 this week and what fun we had! The weather was just gorgeous and all children were an absolute credit to their parents and school. Thank you so much P7 for being superstars!

Victor and Jack our two little nursery Guineas Pigs got a new home yesterday which Mrs T and I went to buy and is in the proceess of being assembled. It’s an amazing home and will allow the piggies to spend more time in the nursery garden enjoying the sunshine and grass.  The piggies also had their first bath with the help of Mrs Brass to ensure that they remain clean, fragrant  and healthy!

We held an assembly today on the last  of our Wellbeing Indicators  to be discussed this year, which is also one of our school values, ‘ I am included.’  We talked about how we always include others at Springfield regardless of their skin colour, religious belief, gender, dress sense etc etc. We learned about the power of being unique and of celebrating our individuality. We continue to promote the message that it is not okay to leave people out of our play nor is it okay to make negative comments about another person.

Here are the achievements for this week:

-Well done to O in our infant department for lots of success in gymnastics! Keep it up!

-Congratulations to all of the children in our embroidery after-school club and thank you to Mrs Tulloch and her helpers for running it. These children took part in a local competition and are featured in the latest edition of The Black Bitch magazine! We are very proud!

-Well done to James Hammond whose STEM design is through to the next stage of the Scottish Young Engineer Awards. We are rooting for you James!

Have a great weekend everyone! Next week is fitness week and we have lots going on so it will be action-packed.

Letters to Liam in P2/3

In Literacy this week we wrote letters to Liam, telling him all about what we’ve been up to this term. We had so much to write about! We also included questions in our letters, as we want to know all about Liam’s new life in Spain.

In Grammar, some of us have been learning how to use commas in lists. For example; I went to the shop and I bought apples, bananas, oranges and pears. We know to use a comma after each item and to separate the last two items using the word ‘and’.

Over the next few weeks we will be revising our common words, playing lots of games and fun activities. This week we had fun playing common word twister!

In Maths this week we have been learning about weight. We can use the words ‘lighter’ and ‘heavier’ when comparing objects. We estimated and measured using scales and cubes, with some of us moving on to measuring in grams. We know that heavier items can be measured in kilograms.

P5’s digital leaders came to visit us on Thursday, they presented powerpoint presentations on Sumdog top tips. We are loving using Powerpoint at the moment, nearly as much as Sumdog!

Finally, we’ve had lots of fun in the sun this week; practising for sports day, reading Stig of the Dump and rehearsing our Springfield’s Got Talent acts.

Next week admin:

  • No spelling or maths homework – see optional Fitness homework grid
  • Fitness week all week – children can wear sporty clothes
  • Sports day on Wednesday
  • In class auditions for Springfield’s Got Talent on Thursday

Have a lovely weekend,

Love P2/3 and Miss Prince x

Mapping Mad in P1B!

We began a topic on Our Local Community this week.  We started by looking at Springfield School and where it is in our community.  We learned about mapping and drew our own maps of the classroom.  We had to pretend that we were birds flying around the ceiling, looking down, to allow us to get an aerial view. Our maps were really detailed and we spent a long time looking around the room to make sure we put everything in the right place.  We shared our maps with a learning partner too, discussing what we had done.  We really enjoyed being Cartographers, although it is a tricky word for us to remember!

Later in the week, Mrs Kennedy used her map of the classroom to plan a treasure hunt for us so we could practise reading maps too.  Each team had different coloured tokens to find using their map.  We then swapped our tokens for a reward.

Following on from this, lots of children have been choosing to draw their own maps during free play.  The detail and discussion has been excellent and Mrs Kennedy is very impressed.

We have had three incredible helpers in P1B this week – A, A and A!  They are  P7s and they have been so helpful to all of the children and Mrs Kennedy.  They even planned and carried out 2 lessons – PE and Maths.  They did everything on their own, they were given learning outcomes to cover and then they researched and planned activities and wrote up detailed plans.  They had thought of everything including organisation of resources and behaviour management.   The children loved the lessons and I can’t believe how professional they were = A+ from me!  You can come back anytime.

We had more achievements this week.  C did really well in his Bambino race last weekend and came away with a medal and a trophy – fantastic driving C!

G got the Enjoy-a-ball trophy for trying very hard when playing tennis, he told he didn’t give up because he wanted to be resilient.

Another very successful week, we are looking forward to health week next week.

Have a good weekend, from P1B and Mrs Kennedy

Primary 2B

The children in Primary 2 now know the numbers to 10 in Japanese. We had a visit today from a friend of mine who has lived and worked in Tokyo. She taught them numbers amongst other things and they have all brought home 1 yen! Ask them to tell you how much 1000 yen is worth in our money. This is all because we have been finding out about Japan this week. The children have researched information on the netbooks about Tokyo, they have done pastel  drawings of cherry blossom and some have used tissue paper and frogs using origami.

We have had fun doing capacity this week – lots of water and activities. Also we have started to look at position and direction and the children have drawn their own treasure islands with directions for their partners to find the treasure.

Also Japanese wise we have made up our own Haiku poems about summer – 3 lines – 5 syllables,7 syllables and 5 syllables. We had fun composing them.

Practised for sports day and learnt colours in French with Mrs.Newton. So a busy week and looking forward to our Fitness week next week. Have a good weekend.
