Welcome Back Primary 5

It’s been lovely to see the children back in school this week, refreshed and keen to get started.

We’ve had a busy first week, getting to know each other through a variety of activities including bingo and creating jigsaw pieces.

In literacy, we designed our own aliens and  then used a thesaurus to find interesting words to help us describe them.

Numeracy included a treasure hunt and a task to help us identify the areas we need to develop further this session.

We’ve discussed the qualities that make an excellent pupil and teacher and shared these together. We’ve also begun to create our Class Charter, discussing rules and why we have them. We have voted on the theme for our charter, choosing emoji’s for this session.

Have a lovely weekend.

Our first week in P3A!

Welcome to our first blog post in P3A! We have had a busy week back at school and have worked very hard and settled in well. This year we are the eldest children in the infant area and we have been trying really hard to be good role models. Miss Harrison has been extremely impressed with us and we won the Peg Challenge on Friday for our excellent behaviour in the corridor.

On Tuesday we looked at our school values. We played a game similar to ‘Simon Says’ where Miss Harrison called out the different values and we had to perform the actions. We were very confident with our values and Miss Harrison couldn’t get us out! We discussed how we could display each value in school and then we worked in groups to make posters about each value. They look fantastic up on our school values wall. We made sure that they were attractive to our readers by making them eye-catching, clear and neat.

This week we also discussed what makes a good P3 pupil and teacher. We worked in groups to write down some ideas and then we shared these ideas with our whole class. Miss Harrison typed them up and displayed them beside our behaviour traffic lights. We would like Miss Harrison to be intelligent, fun, kind, helpful and buy some Star Wars books for our classroom!

This week we started our new class novel for this term, ‘James and the Giant Peach’. On Tuesday afternoon we decided to give our reading area a ‘James and the Giant Peach’ theme so we worked in groups to draw the outlines of the main characters and then we used different media to add colour. Later in the week, Miss Harrison read us some more chapters and we discussed with our learning partners what we thought might happen next to the main characters. We used our visualising skills to draw our predictions. We included lots of detail and used information from the text to help with our drawings of the main characters. On Friday we revised what we already know about adjectives. We used our knowledge of adjectives to identify words that Roald Dahl used to describe the insects in James and the Giant Peach. We highlighted the adjectives in the chapter and we discussed why authors use adjectives in texts.

On Wednesday we had Mrs Tulloch for Science/STEM and then Mrs Reid for PE. This will be the same each week. This term we are learning about sun and moon changes with Mrs Tulloch. As well as having Mrs Reid on a Wednesday, we also have PE with Miss Harrison on a Thursday afternoon. Miss Harrison will be taking us for benchball as we have a P3 Benchball competition in November. On Thursday we practised our throwing, catching and passing skills and set ourselves time challenges to see how many passes we could make with our partner in the time set. We looked at making three passes before you could score and then we played some benchball games.

On Thursday we revised our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills. We played a game on Education City where we had to select the correct operation for each sum. We then played a game called ‘Inverse Machines’ and made our own inverse machines for our Numeracy display.

On Thursday, we looked at children’s rights. We watched a video about children’s rights and discussed which rights we have at school. In our groups, we looked at the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and highlighted which rights were applicable to school. We shared our ideas with our whole class and we have displayed these rights on our Class Charter.

Thank you for reading our blog post. We hope that you have a lovely weekend!

Welcome to P2A

Hello and welcome to our first blog post of the school year! We’ve had a fantastic week getting to know Miss Prince and exploring our new classroom. Miss Prince is very impressed with how well we have settled in. We have done lots of work on our school values and we have received lots of dojo points for displaying our values in the classroom. Here are the actions (just in case the adults need a refresher!)

We have started reading ‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me’ by Roald Dahl, we are especially enjoying singing the rhymes and songs in the story. Here are the words to the window cleaners song if you would like to practise at home:

We will polish your glass

Till it’s shining like brass

And it sparkles like sun on the sea

We are quick and polite

We will come day or night

The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me!

Here are some pictures of what we’ve been up to in our new classroom:

On Monday we will get our new reading books. Please don’t hesitate to send me a dojo if you have any questions.

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

First week in P6b

Welcome back to all the children in P6B! It is good to see everyone safely back at school and hear all about the summer holidays.

Mrs McVay is here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Mrs Begarnie on Mondays and Fridays.

We have started place value in Maths and have written about our summer holidays. We have been thinking about our targets and class charter. We have chosen names for our tables. They are on a Disney theme – the Stitches, the Piglets, the Seven Dwarfs and the Donald Ducks.

Everyone has had a super week with excellent behaviour and attitude. We even jointly won the peg challenge to earn five extra minutes at playtime because we’ve walked around school quietly.

We are enjoying getting our brains exercised each morning with our morning challenge.

It’s going to be a great year in P6!

Welcome to school P1a and Mrs Gordon

What an amazing week we have had in P1a. Mrs Gordon is so proud of her wonderful children and all that they have achieved in week 1.

This week we have been learning routines and had a tour of the school. We have been exploring our new classroom and have really enjoyed the house corner, dressing up and the cars.

We started some work on rhyme by reading “Room on the broom” the children enjoyed working out which word was the odd one out.

We met our French bear Camembear and he taught us numbers 1-5 and how to say yes and no, “oui et non”.

Today we were very excited to win class of the week ! Look at us with our trophy!

Have a lovely weekend, Mrs Gordon and P1a

Primary 2B

Welcome to Primary 2B. The children have all settled really well into Primary 2 and I think have enjoyed their first week back at school. We have done lots of getting to know you activities, as well as some free play and sequencing numbers.

Most days we have been outside to do walk a mile and they have had P.E with Mrs.Reid this week. We have talked about the school values and made posters of them.

Next week the children will have their reading books and the week after we will give them homework.

A Fitting End to a Fantastic Year in P1B

Wow!  What a great year and the quickest yet, although maybe I say that every year!

P1B ended the year as they began – by working hard.  We worked right up until the last day and the children’s enthusiasm for learning never waned.  On a serious note, we have had a mini project on Internet Safety over the past couple of weeks, where we learned never to give any personal information  over the internet and if anyone is unkind to us on the internet we must tell an adult straight away.  Although they may seem a little young, and are most likely not communicating with anyone on the internet yet, it is best that they are informed so they fully understand the message when the time comes.  These lessons are a Government initiative, they are aimed at young children and are a lot of fun.  You can find out more on this website if you wish: www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7/hectorsworld/  We watched the first episode and looked at the Lee and Kim section.

We also did a little bit of work on our handwriting.  Sometimes we can get the letters around the wrong way – especially b and d and i and j.  We tried some activities to help us to remember the correct direction of the letters.

A, R and C sang ‘A Million Dreams’ at ‘Springfield’s Got Talent’ they did really well and got great feedback from the judges 🙂  Well done girls.

On Thursday we had a lovely Teddy Bear’s picnic with our P7 Buddies.  They really have looked after us well this year and this was a great way to spend time together and wish them well.  We had our picnic in the shade and them played games together on the pitch.

What a fun year I’ve had, I always learn so much from the children I teach and  this year has been no exception, individuals not afraid to do their own thing, their enthusiasm has been inspiring.  Have a lovely holiday everyone. Take care.

Springfield’s Got Talent

What a wonderful day we had on Tuesday at Springfield’s Got Talent. All the children were confident performers and really showcased their talent. The Greatest Showman was a prominent theme with 5 versions of “A million Dreams”…. Here are some photos of some of the finalists and our winners. Many thanks to everyone who supported the event from the Pupil Council.

A farewell from Primary 2!

Here are a few pictures of our last week in Primary 2A. We enjoyed lots of outdoor play and a fabulous Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

A HUGE thank you to all of my wonderful parents for their support this year. We have had the best year ever in P2A!

Enjoy your summer!
