Chess Club Awards.

Well done to our Chess Club children for all of their efforts this session at the Tuesday, lunchtime club. The club has now finished for this session and will resume again in September 2017. Here are some pictures of the ‘end of session’ prizegiving. A special ‘well done’ to Oliver  Thompson who won an award for his overall performance and positive attitude towards chess.  Thank you so much to Mr Clarke and Mr Woodhouse, the volunteers who run the club and provide this amazing opportunity for our pupils. We are so grateful!

P2/3’s activities.

Fantastic P.E. lesson outside. The children are using a variety of PE skills and had opportunities to invent their own games.

The children designed their own Easter Egg then worked in pairs. Each pairing had to remember their partner’s design, then, taking it in turns, they went off and hid it along with a surprise.

Some people made it really tricky!

Look at the wonderful Easter Bonnets!

Our regional position out of 113 schools we are 89th.

The class(es) with the most journeys by scooter/bicycle are. Mrs Leadbetter and Mrs Kerr.

Well done everybody!!

Last week before the Easter break.

It sure was our last week before our Easter holidays, but what a busy week it has been.

No matter the week, we never stop learning. In Numeracy this week we finished with multiplication, and started to have a look at division. We made the connection between multiplication and division and realised how important it was that we knew our times table facts. Hopefully with the multiplication mash up song we have been singing and some extra practise during our holidays, I’m sure when we get back to school we will be able to tackle the various division strategies with ease.

In literacy this week we were learning the differences between a prefix and a suffix. We also used the books in our classroom library to go on a prefix hunt. It was interesting to see how we can break words up into, prefixes, root words and suffixes.

We had fun in PE this week, we joined up with Primary 5A and we took part in some fun dancing using  Go Noodle. It was so much fun, to join up with the our friends in the other class, the dance moves were fun, we were having so much fun we didn’t even realise we were working up a sweat.

This week has been a week of all things Easter. We enjoyed making mindfulness colouring Easter cards. We hope that our special persons enjoys their cards that we have made. We have also been practising our Easter songs with Primary 5A. We even made a funky ‘Up Town Funk’ Easter version song. We all put a lot of effort into making our Easter bonnets, which we displayed for our special guests  on Thursday. Mrs Matos and Mrs Macartney were very proud of all the Primary 5s for their  hard work on their Easter Bonnets and singing.

In 1+2 we have been learning the French colours. We created our own Easter French colour by numbers version. We then asked a partner to follow the French instructions and to colour our Easter pictures in correctly. We definitely have some budding artists in P5B.

P5B would like to say a Big Thank you to P4A who invited us along to their classroom to share their learning on Egypt with us. We had so much fun learning different facts about Egypt. We really appreciate all the effort P4A had put in to make us feel welcome, and also had some fun active activities for us to do while we were there. We made some pyramids, wrote our names in hieroglyphics and there were so much for to do. Thank you P4A and Mrs Newton.

After such a busy week, we definitely all looking forward to our Easter holidays.

P5B and Mrs Matos

Happy Easter from P1B

It was such lovely weather on Monday, we went outside in the afternoon.  We are lucky to have some outdoor toys and equipment, a good selection so we can choose activities that suit us.

The future of Springfield School football team is looking good Mr Logan – some great skills being shown here!

A group of children decided to work together to build the longest cuboid they could – good teamwork guys!

We have continued our floating and sinking this week – carrying out experiments by ourselves and making our own boats.  There was a selection of materials available and we had to think about shape and design.  Most of the boats floated, for a little while at least and it was good fun talking about why they sank, what were the best designs and materials? We also thought about what we could do differently next time.

We were learning the ‘oo’ sound this week.  We did lots of different ‘oo’ activities although we particularly liked playing with the ‘goo’ or ‘gloop’ – both good ‘oo’ words!

Looking back at some of my blogs I realised that I don’t post very many maths pictures, not that we don’t do much maths – I just seem to be too busy during maths time to take pictures!  Here are some of us working on subtraction this week.  We were looking at maths language – different word problems that mean we have to use subtraction to work out the answer and we are beginning to link addition and subtraction facts to improve our mental maths.

On Thursday it was our Easter Bonnet Parade.  The Easter Bonnets were all fantastic – thank you very much for all your hard work.  It was lovely seeing some of you at the parade, even though we were a little star struck and didn’t sing as loudly as we usually do!

On Thursday afternoon some of the children from Bonnytoun Nursery came for a visit.  They listened to a story with us and spent some time in the classroom.  Then we went outside for an Easter Egg hunt and some games.

We had a lovely Easter service at St Michael’s church on Friday, walking all the way there and back without a hitch or a grumble!  Well done guys – as usual you were little stars.  Also, a big thank you to the parents who helped us today.

Have a fantastic Easter break and I’ll see you in just over two weeks time.

B1B and Mrs Kennedy x

Easter fun in P1A!

This week we learned the ‘oo’ sound. We matched ‘oo’ words and pictures, played ‘oo’ games on Education City, looked for ‘oo’ words in a word search and made our own ‘oo’ sentences. We are able to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our sentences and can use our sounds to spell words.

Our favourite ‘oo’ activity was making and playing with goo!

This week, we have been continuing to learn about subtraction facts to 5. We learned that there are different words that you can use for subtraction such as ‘less than’ and ‘take from’ and we are beginning to link our addition and subtraction facts. After the holidays we will be learning subtraction facts to 10.

On Thursday morning, we had our Easter parade. We wore our fantastic Easter bonnets and went along to the hall to show everyone our wonderful creations and to sing ‘Spring Chicken’. A huge thank you to our parents for helping us to make such amazing Easter bonnets and for supporting our Easter parade.

On Thursday afternoon, we continued our Easter celebrations. We went to the Outdoor Classroom and had a huge Easter egg hunt with P1B. Afterwards, we went onto the football pitch to have some egg and spoon races. The wind made it quite tricky as we were using plastic eggs but we still had fun!

We had some special visitors on Thursday. After lunch, we had some nursery children up to visit. Miss Harrison read us all a story and then we showed the nursery children all the activities and resources in our classroom. Miss Harrison was extremely proud of us as we looked after the nursery children very well and we were very kind, helpful and caring.

Today we went to St. Michael’s Church for our Easter Service. We were a little tired after the walk there and back but it was a lovely way to end the term. Thank you to our parent helpers who helped us to get there and back safely.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

P1A and Miss Harrison 🙂

A cracking week in P3

We have had a fun filled week this week in P3, practicing for our Easter parade and our church service; thank you very much for all your help with the Easter bonnets – they were brilliant!

This week we have also rounded off our topic of childhood through the ages. We were put into different groups to have a go at summarising what we have learnt about New Lanark, the Victorians, 60’s and 70’s – 90’s. In addition, we also did some time travelling into the future, where we got the chance to design our very own toys which we think might be around in a few years time!

In maths this week we have been continuing with our division, here are some pictures of our work in action!

On Thursday we did lots of arts and crafts in preparation for Easter. We practised some printing to make our own Easter eggs for our Easter cards, and we made some bunny pictures too. We also decorated and built our own Easter baskets which got filled with some Easter treats – yay!

We wish you all a happy Easter and a wonderful Easter holiday.

P3 🙂

Easter week in Primary 2

Well we have done mainly Easter things this week and the children have really enjoyed it. We’ve done symmetrical eggs, Easter cards (which hopefully your child will remember to give at the appropriate time), Easter Maths, Spring Acrostic poems, the Easter story and various other activities. Culminating today in an Easter egg hunt. Oh also the Easter bonnet Parade and assembly. Have a good holiday everybody and look forward to seeing you back after the holidays.

Dear All

Today we went to the church for the Easter service.

This week in literacy we learned how to write newspapers.

In numeracy we did an Easter multiplication treasure hunt. We did subtraction using formal column method.

In Health and Wellbeing we did throwing and catching with bean bags and we used hoola hoops. We practiced high jump with scissor jumps and hurdles.

In Learning across the curriculum we learned that after the holidays we are going to be doing “Living and Growing!” We did Ancient Egypt’s Got Talent. We checked the results of our mummified tomatoes.

With Mrs Begarnie, on Wednesday we learned about Easter and how they celebrate it in other countries. We finished our posters or letters for Water Aid.

Hope you have a great Easter holiday!
