P3/4 Blog WE 8.9.17

Primary 3/4

Blog Week Ending 8.9.17

Dear All

This week we did desert stories. We used our imagination. We went to the library. We did sentences with capital letters full stops and finger spaces.

We did last one standing. We did number bonds. We did seventeen times table. We did taking away. We did multiplication. We did symmetry.

In health and wellbeing we walked a mile. During PE we did balance and yoga. We talked about giving money or time to charities.

We used the computers to do research on deserts.

Hope you have a good weekend!

P2/3 and Marvellous Maui

This week Primary 2/3 have been learning about where in the world Maui is. We found out that it is a tiny island many thousands of miles away. It takes 14 hours on a plane to get there! We carried out research about Maui and made mind maps to present our findings. We learned about the animals that live in Maui – we thought the monk seal looked very cute!

In Maths this week we have been looking at 1, 2 and 10 more/less. We drew beautiful number gardens using our knowledge of more and less.

We had lots of fun at the phonic stations this week! We liked pasta words and sound fishing the best.

Daniel very kindly brought in plums from his garden for us to try. They were delicious!

In PE with Mrs Reid we are learning how to play benchball. We have been practising our ball skills with Miss Prince.

Sam the champion horse rider brought in his medal to show us. Well done, Sam!

Our Star of the Week was Ruth for working so hard across all of her learning. Super star!

Wee reminder that homework will start on Monday.

Have a great weekend,

Love P2/3 and Miss Prince x

Revolting Recipes in P2A

This week started our class novel ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. We used our predicting skills and became book detectives to try and look for clues as to what the story may be about. We were introduced to the character of ‘Grandma’ and came up with a list of fabulous describing words. We then put these into sentences and drew some detailed pictures of Grandma. We also created our own Marvellous Medicines. We made a list of some rather disgusting and unusual ingredients then created a revolting recipe for other people to follow.

In phonics this week we have been revising some of our digraphs from last year. Miss Mudd’s group were looking at the wh and ai sounds and Mrs Burton’s group were looking at the oo and ew sounds.

In Maths we have been learning our numbers to 100. We have learnt to recognise them, read them, write them and order them. Miss Mudd gave us a team challenge and we had to help her piece together the 100 square as it was all in a muddle. We had to race to put it back together and we had to work as a team. We also revised 3D shape and talked about the different properties of shapes. We looked at the faces, edges and corners. We used the shapes to create models and identified the shapes we had used.

Our P2 Pals came to say hello and helped us with our ICT skills. We practised how to log on and even created our own wild characters online.

We got a little surprise in P2A this week. Paddington Bear was away on his holidays so he sent us a postcard telling us what he has been doing. We looked at lots of examples of postcards and came up with a list of things we would need to include when we wrote one. We practised using interesting describing words in our sentences to help us describe different places.

This week we started our new IDL topic ‘From Front Door to Sea Shore’. We planned the topic together by looking at what we already know, what we would like to know and wrote down questions we would like to answer. We used google maps to look at where we live and compared Springfield to seaside resorts that we have visited. We talked about what was similar and what was different about these environments. Mairi even showed us a beach she used to visit when she lived in Australia.

Formation Friday has returned! We have been pracisiting our number formation as Miss Mudd noticed some of us have been writing our numbers backwards. We worked around the active stations to make sure we were getting our numbers perfect!

Another busy week for us.  Miss Mudd wanted to thank you all for coming and showing your support at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening. She is really excited to work with you all this year and always appreciates your support.

Have a lovely weekend!

P5- working together :)

Welcome to the P5 blog, we are working together to share our learning and support each other in a positive, growth mindset manner.

This week we started by researching Space. We worked in pairs to take notes and next week we will be making leaflets about all the different things we discovered.

In French we learned how to ask and answer the question “Ou Habites-tu?” as well as doing Five a Day French.

With Mrs Tulloch we went outside to measure the distance from the sun to the different planets. This was tricky, however we perservered and worked together to complete the task- Go P5!

On Thursday we spent most of the day recreating a day in the life of a refugee. This was harder than we thought, the shelters were very tricky to make and not all of us managed to get inside one. We did have a great time though and it showed us how difficult it is when you have to leave your home. This is very relevant at the moment as we know that there are lots of people whose homes have been destroyed or damaged by Hurricane Irma.

Mrs Newton also set us a challenge to find out how hurricanes start, we did really well at this and we are hoping that Irma and Jose do not cause too much damage.

Next week we are going to revise our knowledge of fractions- we will be playing Scoot and Find the Fraction, spell tricky space words and make Dream Jars (Please remember we all need Jars for this) and take part in a live Roald Dahl Day.

Photo will be on Dojo over the weekend.

Have a great weekend.

P5 🙂

Primary 6B – This week’s learning

In maths this week we have been looking at place value and working with huge numbers. We created some 7 digit numbers using human number-lines.

We have also completed our 3D hands, which show the people we can talk to if we have a worry or a concern.

We began work on a poem, which tells others about the ‘Best Part of Me’.

The Cake Fest Project begins….

Primary 7 were extremely busy this week as they started their Cake Fest Project. Each team is coming up with a design of a Scottish Monument that can be made entirely of cake…the children will plan, design, model and present these ideas and the one winning cake will be built by that team. To start off Mrs Gordon worked with each class to do food hygiene and then used those skills and many more to make apple pie for 62 children…The children now know how to peel, core and chop and apple and make a basic crumble mixture from scratch. I will attach the recipe so they can make this for you at home. Here are a few pictures of us at work…

We had the first of our skill share sessions this week where Mrs Gordon teaches us French or Spanish and Mr Logan teaches us PE. This week was French focusing on “tout sur moi” all about me. We learnt how to say our favourite things in French and really challenged Mrs Gordon with jobs like atomic scientist and ninja!

In PE Mr Logan is focusing on extreme dodgeball this term.

During buddy time we helped our P1 buddies with their ICT skills. We helped them to log on and off the netbooks and play some maths games. We all had great fun. Here are a few photos of us.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our assembly next Friday 8th September at 10am.

Fun and creative learning taking place in P6A!

Being inspired by last weeks visit to the Edinburgh book festival, we had spent a lot of time this week writing our own monster stories. Although the author Dave Rudden explained the writing process to us, we have been surprised how much hard work goes into writing an extraordinary story.  Mrs Matos has taught us about the three parts of writing. First we need to write all our ideas and thoughts down, we did this by making a story map, the next step is using the story map to help us write our first draft, during and after the first draft we practised our editing skills. We learnt the importance of proof reading as we managed to identify errors with our spelling and punctuation, and finally we could write our final draft, we used our edited first draft to up level our final draft of our monster stories. Mrs Matos is looking forward to reading our creative stories which we have worked so hard to complete.

This week in Numeracy we’ve been learning about different ways to collect data, and the reasons why and how we collect data in the world around us. We worked together to complete a survey on the classes, favourite sports, subject, food etc. Using the information we had gathered we drew up a tally chart. Using the tally chart we compiled all the information onto a bar chart. We have also spent some time this week learning to interpret bar graphs, we quickly learnt how deceiving some graphs may look.

Have you ever been worried before? This was a question that Mrs Matos asked us, Mrs Matos read or should we say dramatized the story of a Huge bag of worries. Mrs Matos had her own bag of worries that she was carrying around to, and showed us that if we don’t share our worries with someone how big the bag of worries can become. We confidently shared some of our worries with each other. Mrs Matos also showed us her special box on her table, that if ever we were worried about anything big or small that we can write it on a piece of paper and put it her worry box, Mrs Matos will then read our worry, and will try her best to help us.  We created our own bag of worries which we wrote down some of the worries in the bag.

Skipping, Hula hooping, balancing are just a few things we did in PE this week. Stations were set up around the hall, and we had to rotate through all the stations focusing on balancing, jumping, skipping and eye hand co-ordination. Miss Hardie even showed off some of her skipping skills too.

In 1 + 2 this week we practised some vocabulary, such as Salut, Au revoir, Bojour , Bonsoir etc. We focused not just knowing the English translation for each, but how to correctly pronounce the words.

From monsters to French words that sums up our learning, and we eager for it to all happen again next week.

P7b Weekly Blog

This Week

Our mini IDL learning theme is Cake Fest, and in our groups we have continued preparations this week. Mrs. Gordon brought in a huge supply of apples from her garden and these were used to do some practical cooking skills. We made apple crumble which was delicious, whilst developing our knowledge of the importance of food hygiene and risks associated with this. With Mr. Logan, we focused on the design aspect for our cakes, producing annotated diagrams and using ICT to create a Lego representation of our chosen structures. Next week we look forward to finalising our designs (the most important criterion is feasibility)  before Mr. Logan and Mrs. Gordon will decide which group will go forward to make their building out of cake.

We have been doing some assessment work for numeracy, spelling and writing this week. In numeracy, our Second Level baseline will be used to see where our strengths lie and also the areas in which we will be working hard to extend our knowledge this year. We will redo the assessment at the end of this year to see how much progress we have all made. On Thursday we met Mr. Ritchie who will be in class with us one day a week. He provided us with a picture stimulus and music before challenging us to write a creative piece about what lay behind the secret door. Once this writing has been marked, we will discuss our targets with Mr. Logan to ensure our writing continues to improve.

Mr. Logan and Mrs. Gordon swap classes on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon to allow for some skill sharing. With Mrs. Gordon we brushed up on some of previous learning in French and look forward to also learning some Spanish with her in the coming weeks. Mr. Logan is responsible for our P.E, and our first block will focus on Extreme Dodgeball. Last year’s P7s thoroughly enjoyed this activity and we began by gaining an insight into the basic rules and playing some competitive small-sided games. Next week we will develop different ways of throwing the dodgeball, aim to improve our accuracy and play some adaptations of the basic game.

Finally, we have continued our buddying duties this week but allowed our P1s to become increasingly independent. On Friday we were Digital Leaders when teaching our buddies how to turn on/off the laptops, log on, access the internet and play some games safely online. Mr. Logan has been impressed throughout the week with the mature and responsible approach we’ve taken to carrying out this role in school. All of us are determined and motivated to lead by example this year as the senior pupils within school.

Have a look at some photos from this week. Is Charlie reading a big book, or has Charlie shrunk? Who knows.

P4 explorations

The book festival was a success on Tuesday.  Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who kept the children safe, engaged and happy.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Since the talk during the book festival included conversations about friends, Miss Durano extended this in class.  We wrote  stories about our friend/s, we created visual representations, and presented these in class.

We had lots of fun  Storytelling with multiplication aspects in it.  It was little tricky but we liked the challenge.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!!!

Primary 2B’s Week

Class Blog Week beginning 28/08/17

All children are getting the opportunity to become class monitors for the week. There are a variety of jobs to do and all seemed keen to get a job. Ask your child what monitor jobs there are.

The children have done their first piece of writing in their jotters about their weekend news. They all did very well.

We have created a class charter which will go up on the wall.

The children have really enjoyed the story of “The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me” and have worked on one of our Thinking Reader skills – visualisation. They have also created their own “Grubber” shops and posters for the window cleaning company.

We have also read “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch” and done some work on the setting of this story.

The Maths assessments have been completed and next week we will begin working on numbers to 100.

So another busy week in Primary 2B.  Look forward to meeting you all next Thursday at the “Meet the Teacher” evening.
