Greyfriars Bobby, Research and Benchball in P4B

Yet another busy week in P4B. We listened to the story of “Greyfriars Bobby” and then we wrote some very good recounts of the story. We displayed a very good understanding of the story. We have also been learning where to put commas in sentences, particularly focusing on lists. “Fing” our class novel was finished during the week and we all enjoyed it so much and had plenty of laughs. Now thinking about our next one.
In Numeracy, we have been estimating and rounding, as well as continuing with adding and subtracting 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s. 3D shape has also been part of our learning- describing shapes – how many edges, vertices etc. We have also been taking part in Number Talks and had some very good explanations from some members of the class.

We are now beginning to learn the names of classroom items in French and will continue next week.
Benchball has featured in our PE lessons and we really enjoy as well as our relay team games.

Look forward to seeing you at Parents Evening this week.

27.9.19 Primary 5/6

Welcome to Primary 5/6 blog

For grammar we did adverbs and verbs . We watched a video clip of Aladdin and had to make our own sentences up with exciting adverbs.

For comprehension we played Blankety  Blank  and a worksheet with missing words .

In maths we did proprties of a 3d shape and we did guess the number .  One group were looking at real life examples of where we use shape. Next week we are making nets. We played multiplication wars with packs of cards.

For our novel  “Wonder”,  we drew pictures of ourselves  and wrote 41 acts of kindness. We did beautiful paintings as well.

In science we did the cotton reel challenge . We had to make it move using as many different energy transfers as possible. Some people did 9.

At music with Ms Bain, we played a river song with different notes . Mrs Tulloch said it sounded great.

Spanish -we did conversations. Gracias.

Primary 6 – w/e 27th September 2019

This week we have been exploring place value. We created a human place value chart and put numbers into it. We practised reading and writing these numbers.

Our first number talk this week was addition, where we looked at different ways of completing addition mentally.

We have created our own mind map of the things we would like to learn about the River Congo, which we are going to research and compare to the River Forth.  This was the River that was voted for after trying to persuade each other that the river we have chosen to research was the best one.

In PE we have been putting all of our ball handling skills together and playing games of basketball.

We created a character description of our mythical creature for our storywriting.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Primary 6 and Mrs Kerr

Our class have worked extremely hard this week, even though it was a short one.

For Numeracy, we learnt how to calculate  percentages from an amount. We also exercised our number talk skills as we demonstrated various ways of multiplying/diving numbers.

For Literacy, we wrote a fact file about Brazil.  We  summarised events in our novels during guided reading.  We also learnt to use question tags (in Grammar).

Expressive Art- we practiced drawing caricatures this week.  Next week, we will use this type of drawing to create a portrait of someone in our class.  We will then incorporate Romero Britto’s style in our masterpiece.

Enjoy the sun this weekend everyone!

Lots of Questions in P3A

We flew to Honolulu on Monday!  When we arrived at P3A we had to check in our luggage, then we were all given boarding passes which were checked before we boarded our flight.  We listened to the onboard safety instructions and took off on our journey.

Mrs Kennedy had a suitcase filled with pictures and items to stimulate discussion on what we would like to learn about Hawaii.  We all wrote three questions and our lessons will be planned to answer these as we explore the topic.

Some P7s came to teach us maths on Monday.  They had planned some place value activities for us.  They were good teachers and we enjoyed having them in our class.

In literacy this week, we were practising our questioning skills.  We listened to and watched a story on the Oxford Owl website.  The story was called Paris Adventure.  After the story we worked in groups to come up with questions beginning with the words – who, what, where, when, why and how to check if our friends had been listening carefully.  We came up with really interesting questions and they they were mostly answered correctly 🙂

The Oxford Owl website is free and the ‘e books’ section has some of our reading books.  You can also search for books at the same level as the children are reading in class.

Some busy Play leaders this week.  P1 had a lot of fun.

The school is taking part in the Aldi sticker challenge and P3A have been asked to collect the stickers for the whole school! We need to collect 300 to get some sports kit and to be entered into a competition to win £20,000 for the school.  Please send in any stickers you get.

In PE, we begun to play full games of benchball – it was very fast and noisy and we were really good.  Next time we will work on looking for spaces so our teammates can pass to us easily.

In art we created new front covers for James and the Giant peach using collage.  They are all quite different and there are lots of super designs.

After that busy week, we are ready for a long weekend.  Have fun 🙂

P3A and Mrs Kennedy
