P5

Last week, we were very busy practising for our assembly and making props! For Halloween, we made Frankenstein and Mummy styled egg boxes.  We created dangly monsters.  We did a Big Maths Beat that Challenge. We worked on alliteration for Halloween words.

This week, we have completed a bird survey outside in the school grounds. We designed a bird feeder.  We worked with a partner to create bird leaflets/fact files on the netbooks.

P5 have made rockets with Mrs Tulloch. P5b have tested their rockets. Lewis’ rocket went the furthest- from the P1 door onto the pitch! P5a are going to do their investigation next week.

We took up the challenge of the Sumdog competition. We had Finlay complete all his questions- Fabulous! We have been finding out about 3D shapes in and around school. P5a have made some 3D shapes from resources outside in the environment. We have looked the nets of 3D shapes.

We have continued working on alliteration and did some work on The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark linking in with Bonfire night. We welcomed our parents into our class to see our writing.

P5 organised the collection of the shoe boxes. We had several  parents help us to sort them out. On Thursday, 125 boxes were sent on their way! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone!

P5 Refugees Assembly

Thank you so much to P5 and Mrs Law for their excellent assembly which shared the plight of refugees around the world. It made us all think how lucky we are to live in peace and harmony in our country.

Pupil Achievements for this week…

Here are some of our achievements from this week…

Well done to B in P5 for achieving success in swimming and for being able to move up a level! Great effort B!

Congratulations to C in P5 for his birthday this week and for receiving an amazing toy called ‘Mr Speck’ which he brought along to show me!

Well done to two lovely P2 girls: C for her massive effort in Writing and to M for taking part in a fun run with some of her Springfield friends!

A final mention goes to S and E from Miss Mudd’s lovely P2 class. These girls took part in an amazing, science-based play opportunity this week to make a potion to turn their teacher crazy. I can tell you that I drank their potion and it certainly worked on me! My goodness! 😝

We do have lots of fun at Springfield and we certainly are a happy school full of happy children!

We have been busy creating Halloween Art pictures. We did a colourwash then we used black paper to create witches, wizards, cats and pumpkins, for example, to design our picture.

We have learned our songs for our Assembly next week.

On Thursday night, we went to the Halloween Disco. We enjoyed dressing up. It was great!

We designed Halloween invitations.

Here are two our our lovely Primary 5 children with their achievements.

You will notice that I use the initial letters of their names only, in order to protect their identifies. This will be the case with all children who have achievements from now on.

ABS went to Harry Potter World and undertook a challenge and FD took part in a golf competition at Linlithgow Golf Club with his team.

PK and MC in P5B have been very busy creating interesting pieces related to Space as part of their home-learning this month. What a tremendous effort boys!

Well done to our amazing  children! We are always very proud! I love your hat F!

Space adventures in P5

We know we have not posted in a while, sorry, busy learning 😉

We worked in pairs to do research on an area of Space that we found interesting, we then created fact sheets about what we had learned.

In small groups we used junk to build model space probes, these were all named and then we shared them with each other. We also started to compare the planets, looking at things like size, composition, temperature etc.

With Mrs Tulloch we used cookies to recreate the phases of the moon- these smelled lovely. We then completed a meteorite investigation on the impact these have when they hit the moon.

Last week was our first assembly, it was on Space. Half of us were in the cast and everyone else was in the choir and backstage crew. We made planets, the sun, a rocket, a USA flag, an alien, stars and a few constellations. We all worked really hard on this and Mrs Baillie and Mr Wells said it was great. Our next assembly is on Friday 3rd November.

As part of our homelearning lots (and lots) of us made cakes that had a weather or space theme, these were delicious.

This week we started doing a comparison on Scotland and a country affected by Hurricane Maria or Irma. We will finish this after the holidays.

Both classes created writing based on Autumn and P5b made some Jackson Pollock inspired paintings.

We have now had 3 sessions with Rock Band- WE LOVE THIS! We have 2 sessions left, which we are looking forward to.  Some of the beats were tricky but we all had a go and sounded great.

This week we have rehearsed all the songs for our Autumn Assembly and most of our parents came along to chat with Mrs Law and Mrs Newton.

Holidays are now here, have a great week off. We are back on Tuesday 24th October 🙂

P5 🙂

P.S. Anyone who is in Edinburgh tomorrow or Sunday can watch our Quidditch Coach, Kieran Newton, take part in the Highlander Quidditch Tournament. It is at Inverleith Park from 10am until 4pm on both days.
